Things continue to get better for NBC’s Whitney. In May, the multi-camera comedy received a 13-episode second-season order and a Friday 8 PM slot. Last month, it was upgraded to the higher-profile Wednesday 8 PM berth, which was previously occupied. And now the network has given it an order for five more scripts, increasing the show’s chances for a back episodic order. Whitney, which will open its second season next Wednesday, joins its new time slot mate, freshman comedy Guys With Kids, which also has a five-script order as does new NBC drama Chicago Fire.

Ew!
Good thing, too. Let’s make sure to shorten Community so that the single worst ”comedy” of all time, no foolin, ”Whitney” can get a full 18 episodes in.
Who thinks this woman is funny? Does she have pictures on NBC brass?
Just the worst writing on television, maybe the worst writing in a generation. I would love to see someone put the show on their resume and go to meetings with a straight face.
Attention “jond”:
Former Whitney writers already “put the show on their resume and go to meetings with a straight face”. In fact, they work on (and lead) writing staffs all over television (see http://www.deadline.com/2012/11/john-quaintance-david-feeney-named-co-showrunners-of-foxs-ben-and-kate/)
You, on the other hand, need to go back to showbiz kindergarten, quietly learn some facts, and then, when you have an opinion based on something other than frustrated misery…stay quiet and learn more.
“Whitney” should stop trying to be the next “Friends,” and instead focus on the relationship between Whitney and Chris D’Elia. The supporting cast – with its cynical, unlikeable characters – are holding the show back.
Moronic show.
The ugly ratings Whitney is sure to see in the coming weeks will be funnier than any episode this putrid show has yet to produce! Good going, NBC!
Most had high hopes for Whitney when it premiered but really didn’t deliver. Then as the season progressed it just got better. So NBC most certainly liked what it saw in the new episodes and decided to order more scripts with intent of more episodes.
It’s no Friends but Whitney’s ‘boyfriend’ is awesome and such a catch. And the show got better as the season progressed.
Great news! Whitney is smart and funny.
Please elaborate.
Horrible! Someone tell Chris D’Elia to get out while he still can!
This is a terrible idea. Cancel it already.
Why in the hell is this show getting extra script orders? It hasn’t even aired yet and already NBC is giving more scripts to it? I mean, really? How this show even made it past a first season is beyond comprehension. How desperate is NBC? With this show possibly tanking in the ratings once it does premiere and a few episodes airing thereafter, we’ll see the end of this drivel once and for all.
Watch Whitney’s ratings be higher than ‘Community’ or ‘Up All Night’. Whitney’s standup is funny so I actually don’t think the show showcases her but it’s no worse than one the dimensional Big Bang Theory which is almost an adult version of a Disney Channel tween comedy.
Yay, I love Whitney. The show did start off slow, and got better, but then out of left field they turned the guy from 30 Rock gay. That was awful, but a least he got go back to 30 Rock where he belongs.
April Fools Day in November?
What are you all talking about?? Whitney is hilarious!!! If I recall correctly ‘Seinfeld’ had the idea of a group of friends long before ‘friends’ did. Since when does having a group of people in a sitcom make it ‘trying to be the next friends’? I can’t wait for Whitney to start up! Bring on more episodes!!
So true, Whitney is great just like her comedy. The first season started a little slow but picked up as the season went and I can’t wait to see more.
Whitney is really a fun program to watch… They should push that show commercially airtime that people know it’s back. I don’t think changing schedule so soon help a new show either but hope people find their way to watch this new season again ! Can’t wait !
I loved Whitney and all of her costars and can’t wait for the new season. They are very entertaining and the chemistry is amazing. It started slow but got better with each episode. This is a funny, well written and acted, laugh out loud show. Keep ‘em coming…
I love this show and its supporting characters!!! Hilarious!!
Like many shows, Whitney went through a rough patch in its first season. However, in the second half of the season, the show progressively became more heartfelt and sincere, showing the strengths of both Cummings and D’Elia, as well as the ensemble they work with. Furthermore, much respect should be paid to Whitney Cummings herself, as she she shows that she is a very hard worker aiming to please an audience. She writes, produces, and stars in her own show while also working on a new talk show for E!. There is something admirable about her tenacity and, furthermore, she’s funny.
Wow! Such vitriol! If you don’t like the show, don’t watch it! I really like its unusual spin and alternative view on relationships.
Great to hear. This show is funny and smart.
Love this show, am sooooooooo glad for the new time slot and the new order! This is a show that started off slow but got increasingly better as it went on. The two leads are perfect together!
I can not wait to see more of Whitney! I love her humor. So many episodes I just died laughing. Me and all of my friends are so excited to see more! Thank you NBC!
The show started slow but the chemistry between the two stars is great!
Do I get my ten bucks now Whitney?
