This is a good way to kick off the holiday season. There is a lot of holiday cheer to go around this morning as most Monday shows posted ratings increases.
CBS led the gain train boosted by a The Big Bang Theory repeat (3.2/8 in adults 18-49, 9 million total viewers) in the 8:30 PM slot once occupied by cancelled new comedy Partners. With the best CBS rating in the time period by a mile this season, all series that followed hit season highs in 18-49 and total viewers: 2 Broke Girls (4.0/10 up 18%, 11.68 million), Mike & Molly (3.6/8 up 24%, 11.25 million), and Hawaii 5-0 (10.11 million, 2.3/6 up 5%). Even How I Met Your Mother (3.4/9, 8.8 million) at 8 PM was cooking, up 17% in 18-49 to post its best numbers since the season premiere. CBS logged its best Monday performance this fall.
Fox’s Bones (2.3/6, 7.9 million) too was up double-digits from last week, by 15% in 18-49 and 11% in total viewers to post its best numbers since September. Even struggling freshman Mob Doctor (1.2/3, 4 million) perked up, up 33% from last week in 18-49 (+29% in viewers) to also log its best numbers since September.
Similarly, NBC’s The Voice (4.2/10) was up 14% from last week, while the fall finale of Revolution (2.9/8) was up 12% to halt a string of ratings declines and end the first half of its freshman season on a relatively high note. Now we have to see how the serialized drama will weather the four-month hiatus until its March 25 return. NBC is poised to record another Monday win, though its lineup was pre-empted for NFL football in Charlotte, so the network’s ratings may be adjusted down in the final.
ABC’s Dancing With The Stars performance finale (2.6/7) was up 8% from last week to a season high. But compared with last fall’s performance finale, the all-star edition was down a steep 26%. The network didn’t get much traction with its back-to-back Extreme Makeover: Home Edition specials, which drew a 1.3/3 and a 1.2/3 at 9 PM and 10 PM, respectively. The 9 PM episode was down 28% from last November’s debut of You Deserve It in the time period.

2BG and M@M got better results thanks to TBBT, but DWTS was only one hour yesterday so I think that helped too.
Hawaii 50 numbers are awful considering it got a 3.6 lead in. no other cbs show gets that kind of big lead in. The show is so bad, not even a good lead in will help it.
Revolution was so so great yesterday. I cannot wait for March.
Revolution has a smart plot line and a terrific cast. And the show is getting stronger with each episode.
Hawaii 50 has a ridiculous plot and and the main actor cannot act.All he does is be shirtless in the show. He tries to act tough and he acomplishes is to look dumb. This show was dummed since the start without a strong leading actor.
long live the real McGarrett…Jack Lord!
Maybe I’m a lonely fool out here, but I’m really enjoying “The Mob Doctor.” While the premise may be flaky (though based on a true story), the cast is great, characterization super — and some great plot twists. After the disappointing early cancellation of last season’s “The Chicago Code,” it was great to see Jennifer Beals back in action last night! (No, I’m not in anyway connected with the production. I live neither near Hollywood or Chicago. just a fan.)
Someone actually watches “The Mob Doctor”?
mob doctor getting better each week..and now it looks like she’s gonna work for the FBI
Oh dear God, ABC. I wish they’d use the room on the schedule for their scripted fare instead of searching for more reality-show wonders.
Nellie,I thought it was very interesting what you mentioned regarding Revolution. As we all know, recent television history is littered with programs which started off well, but, were completely decimated by such a long layoff. Four months is a long time indeed. Come March, many people will be busy with other things,or,will have latched on to some other program by then. How many fans will remember(or even care) that Revolution is back on in March? If the ratings falter when the show returns-it will a direct result of the long delay. These Fall & Winter finales have a tendency to destroy programs which were doing well before the long delays. These networks have noone to blame but themselves for trying to stretch so few episodes(22 on average) over such a long television season. With so many options available to us(cable, online viewing,etc.etc.) tv fans cannot be expected to sit around waiting for the networks to return with new episodes of our favorite programs. Keep up the good work Nellie & thank you.
I doubt it stays off the air that long. They will bring it back when some other mid-season show tanks. NBC picked the long layoff to whet our appetites. That way, when they bring it back earlier (possibly much earlier) NBC will get a nice bump in awareness by the fans.
One of the obvious problems is Revolution doesn’t have the full, 22-episode order from NBC. That still doesn’t benefit it, to have its freshman season split in two.
agreed !! too many shows were gone after long hiatuses,,nbc and other networks are dumb to think any thing can hold our interest after being gone!!
90210 is dreadful. Why is it still on the air? It’s only saving grace is the Teddy gay story line.
When did that storyline begin?
I agree. I thought the show was cancelled. Retreads of old tired shows or past failures.
Could not understand their thinking.
Genre viewers are more passionated and loyal that other viewers. See The Walking Dead, the show has long hiatus too and viewers ome back. I am one of those. And you beg I will be back to watch Revolution next March. The hiatus is shorter than in the walking Dead.
The Fall Finale was terrific. Not even a boring second.
CBS comedies did better but then competition was weaker with data out of the picture. And nothing can save Hawaii 50. The show is the worst CBS has. Bleh.
Such layoffs don’t seem to hurt hit cable shows. If it’s good, they will come
I still can’t believe Partners didn’t get a proper lead-in. 8 million is a low point in a CBS season, not lead-in material…
Pretty obvious now (AS IF it wasn’t before) that the poorly written, poorly cast, poorly acted, poorly directed “Partners” was sucking the lifeblood out of the CBS Monday night comedy lineup.
