Between trick-or-treating for parents and partying for singles, adult 18-49 usage was down 7% from 8-11 PM last night vs. last Wednesday. Most series posted week-to-week declines, many of them of the double-digit variety.
The X Factor had its first live show, introducing hosts Mario Lopez and Khloe Kardashian, whose bra-less appearance proved “very distracting” even for Simon Cowell. X Factor (2.6/8 in the fast nationals, 2.7 in the finals) was down 23% from the show’s last Wednesday episode. Vs. its first live show last fall, X Factor was down 40%. Some of the decline can be explained with the fact that X Factor was originally not scheduled to air Wednesday. The live show was added Monday, and not all programming guides/DVRs picked up the change. Fox still won the night in 18-49.
NBC’s 30 Rock (1.2/4 in 18-49, 3.6 million viewers) aired an original last night with even shorter notice than The X Factor — NBC only made the move Tuesday afternoon as part of a string Hurricane Sandy-related scheduling changes. The departing comedy held OK — flat with its last two airings in its regular Thursday 8 PM slot (30 Rock also tied last week’s episode of Animal Practice, which it replaced last night) and posting a season high in total viewers. Guys With Kids (1.4/4) also was flat with last week. Law & Order: SVU (1.7/5) was down 11% from last week’s 300th episode. Freshman Chicago Fire (1.5/4) was down 17% to a series low and last-place finish at 10 PM. (On the bright side, it was the only 10 PM show not to drop from the first to second half hour). Both Guys With Kids and Chicago Fire have orders for five extra scripts while NBC is mulling their future.
ABC’s Modern Family (4.1/12) was the highest-rated program in 18-49 last night but it was down 16% from last week to a season low. The network’s No. 2 program of the night was evergreen It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown (2.7/9) at 8 PM, which was up 17% from last year when it did not air on Halloween night. The 46-year-old cartoon won its 8-8:30 PM time slot and tied The X Factor. It was followed by newly picked up The Neighbors (1.8/6), which was down 10% from last week to a series low. At 9:30 PM, Suburgatory (2.4/7), was down 11% to a season low. Freshman Nashville (1.8/5), which is still awaiting word on backup scripts/episodes, was down 10% from last week to a series low.
CBS’ Survivor: Philippines (2.4/8) was down 14% from last week to log the franchise’s lowest rated regular telecast. Criminal Minds (2.9/8) was down 6%. CSI (2.3/7) was down a tenth from last week to a series low but topped the 10 PM hour by a wide margin. CBS won the night in total viewers.
On the CW, Arrow (3.4 million, 1.0 in 18-49) was down a tenth in both total viewers and 18-49. Supernatural (0.9 in 18-49) was the only series to post week-to-week gains last night, up 29%.

Kardashian Syndrome is highly contagious and once it attacks your immune system, you’re pretty much a goner.
Sorry, Simon. You should’ve worn protection.
Watched about 15 minutes of this last night. Those hosts are so unappealing I couldn’t watch any longer.
(((NODS))))
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
I actually enjoyed last season of the X Factor. This season, I’m not sure I can even watch another episode. The live show last night was ATROCIOUS! The outfits were laughable, performances mediocre, and the judging was cringe worthy. Simon is over-producing these kids and trying to make them give Lady Gaga style theatrics. And by doing that, it’s making their performances suffer. That’s not how you make a star. What’s fun about these shows is watching the talent get nurtured to the point where they can rock the outfit pictured above (and she definitely did not rock that outfit). Strip it down Simon, or you’re going to lose your audience completely.
I stopped watching X Factor now that Khloe Kardashian is on it.
X Factor is so over produced. It looks like a giant disco…somewhere.
More disturbing is Cowell’s concept that the judges are more important than the talent. The interaction especially between LA Reid and Simon Cowell is absurd, and often, done at the expense of the performers.
Finally, the addition of the ‘hosts’ is yet another negative for a show which has lost all direction.
Good thing Fox renewed it already.
X-Factor averaged a 2.3 demo rating and 6.69 million viewers in its first half hour, so it’s safe to say good ole Charlie Brown beat the first live show of XF this season in both 18-49 demo AND total viewers. In fact, Charlie beat XF even if you take its ratings for the evening as a whole.
I DID NOT appreciate Khloe’s nip-slip. She needs to dress like a lady. Children watch this show. INEXCUSABLE!!!!
Children could be scarred for life! Oh dear!
I’m proud to say that I’ve NEVER watched The Voice, X Factor or American Idol. Anyone with half a brain who reads entertainment news knows these shows jumped the shark FIVE years ago!!! They’re not about producing great talent, they’re about promoting rich TV hosts and helping them to get richer! It’s been years since anyone has come out of ‘Idol’ that the average American knows who they are. These shows are such a waste of airtime.
I’m done watching X-factor. Horrendous acts, horrible hostess, and pathetic attire(knowing full well children are watching tv with their parents at this hour)has left me switching over to The Middle from here on out. X-factor= p.o.s. show.
Typical Kardashian maneuver.talentless they always expose body parts to bring attention to themselves. They’re all a bunch of media whores…the acoustics in that hall are horrendous, can barely hear singers. yes, show is overproduced and over scripted. britney is a total waste, but at least demi spars with cowell and puts him in his place…The Voice has much much better talent this year and is my favorite talent show….and kardashian’s voice is shrill and like scratching your nails on a chalk board.
X-Factor is DOWN 40% with addition of two new judges AND two new hosts.
FOX? Simon? How do you spin that? The show is painfully obnoxious with the lip synching back-up singers and the contestants using backing tracks on a SINGING competition!
It’s terrible.
The UK edition is nothing like this and why do the US judge have zero chemistry.
Khloe was a worthless addition that cost them a million dollars.
More money spent, less viewers This show will be talked about for years after in how badly they botches it’s launch and then made it worse in the second season.
Agreed. Lopez is pathetic & KK – well what did expect? Truly aweful casting.
It’s also not looking too good for Nashville as those numbers are not what the network wants to see for a new show after 4 episodes.
Next week, they seriously need to get those numbers up or we might just see this moved to Sunday nights at 10 PM once 666 is canceled, or possibly they could face the chopping block and it’s such a good show as well..Nashville that is.
