Ricky Martin will get his own red chair on Australia’s version of The Voice when the show returns to Oz’s Nine Network next year. The announcement was made on Nine’s A Current Affair program in Australia Thursday evening after weeks of speculation. Martin is replacing outgoing coach Keith Urban who confirmed his departure in September. At the time, Urban cited “a new album, a tour, and other commitments” as reasons. He later joined American Idol as a judge. Martin will join returning coaches Seal, Joel Madden and Delta Goodrem. The inaugural season of the show kicked off last April and consistently won its time slot to become a ratings powerhouse. Nine’s Peter Wiltshire recently said the network will add hours of The Voice for next season. A debut date has yet to be set. The Voice is produced locally by Shine Australia.

Why couldn’t they get him on American Idol or US The Voice? He’s someone who actually was on the top of the world and is known worldwide. Well, good for Australians then.
Huge Ricky can & never understood why one of the usshows didn’t grab him. With the growing Hispanic population, I wanted idol to pick him so bad.. Or even x factor…. You have to remember he’s been in the public eye since a kid with menudo… he’s been an international superstar …. and had done TV acting & starred on Broadway. He’s a superstar & probably could help ratings..I’d think better than urban but maybe he’s big in country. Even Voice US should consider him as a Blake/Adam replacement
Don’t they need to have at least two Australian coaches on the show due to the country’s laws? The X-Factor Australia also has two national and two foreign judges… I thought Keith had to be replaced by another Australian singer (since Seal is British and Joel is American).
Saulo – no such laws here mate.
They can have whomever they choose.
Yep Excellent for us. We have waited long enough for Ricky to grace our shores. This will be fantastic exposure for him!
