After a nine-month stint at Evolution Entertainment, former Gersh Head of TV Literary and Packaging Rob Golenberg has left the management company to focus on Scripted World, his company with longtime client, writer/producer Alon Aranya. Golenberg and Aranya started Scripted World as a production company in February when Golenberg joined Evolution. Now the duo has formally launched Scripted World as a full-service production and management company. They are being joined by Angela Nikas from The Collective who will serve as a development executive.
Golenberg and writer-producer Aranya, who specializes in getting rights to international formats and bringing them to the U.S., came together when Golenberg was at Gersh where they sold 5 projects — three of them based on Israeli formats, and two on European ones. They included ABC’s Red Widow, based on a Dutch format, which was picked up to series for midseason, NBC’s Midnight Sun, based on an Israeli series, which went to pilot and The Naked Truth, based on an Israeli format, which was in development at HBO with Clyde Phillips writing/executive producing.
This development season, Scripted World has sold three projects based on European formats: Ritter, a legal drama at NBC from Homeland‘s Howard Gordon and Alex Cary inspired by the Icelandic series Réttur, Betrayal, a drama based on the 2011 Dutch series Overspel at ABC, with David Zabel writing/exec producing, and another project at ABC based on a format from the Netherlands, Sea Of Fire, written by Steve Maeda. Additionally, Aranya co-executive produces the CBS/Jerry Bruckheimer drama Hostages, which has a pilot production commitment with Jeffrey Nachmanoff writing. “After 24 years working in the Agency business, I feel there is a real opportunity for Alon and I to turn our creative and business experience into realized added value for our clients, as well as helping the Agencies and Studios Package shows to take to the marketplace in this highly competitive environment,” Golenberg said. Golenberg, who began his career at Triad Artists, had stints at Paradigm, William Morris and AMG prior to Gersh.
