This is weak. And Anne Hathaway can’t carry off the resplendent Claire Danes. But I’m posting it just because Hollywood remains obsessed with Homeland:

It was a definite swing and a miss… no offense to misses.
Great skit, unless you don’t watch the show!
Evidently, it was a great skit only if you don’t watch the show!
The show has outlived its usefulness with the Daily Show and Colbert excelling in its downfall.
I thought that it was hilarious, and I don’t watch the series. I do, however, witness the awkwardness that is Danes, in various interviews.
With all due respect Ms Nikki, people are obsessed with “Homeland” because it really is THAT good, unlike shows like “Veep” and “Newsroom” which are both God awful but we’re told they’re both brilliant.
Signed. Media tends to skew towards anything advertised as free in a hotel room.
This was an amazing skit. From Hathaway’s dead-on impression of Danes, to the daughter popping in, to Hader’s fantastic Mandy Patinkin, this was one of the best skits they’ve done recently.
…Brody was also right on. And Dana popping up everywhere was hysterical!!! Hahahahaha…great job SNL:)
Nah…think you missed on your review. Had just the right amount of ‘over the top’ silliness to represent these great characters. Definitely not weak. It’s ok to laugh every once in a while Nikki…
I wish people would stop saying things like “SNL has outlived it’s usefulness,” or “it should be cancelled”, etc. After 30+ seasons, I think you’re just wasting your breath. In addition to it being an american institution (or at least an NYC institution) it is also one of the best farms for new talent. Besides, what else is NBC going to air at 11:30pm on a Saturday night? American Gladiators reboot?
I love Homeland, AND this sketch nailed it.
Veep and The Newsroom are brilliant. Haven’t seen Homeland, but clearly you have to be familiar with the show in order to find that skit funny. It was definitely a miss due to Homeland not being all that popular despite a Presidential endorsement.
“. . . not being all that popular . . .”?
Really?
When was the last time you checked the ratings?
I love Homeland and thought this sketch was very weak. The big problem? Anne Hathaway can’t touch Claire Danes. A bad actress mocking a great one. It would however, be fun to see Danes mock Hathaway.
Claire Danes is a great actress… too bad she’s playing such a annoying character. I find it impossible to enjoy this show because of all her eye-popping, hand-wringing neurosis. She’s always at a 10 when sometimes the scene needs a simple 4.
Im not sure…can you imagine Danes in a comedy? Hathaway can play more characters. I appreciate, thata she is not meant to play Danes’es role in Homeland, but to mock it in SNL…well, she is the perfect choice for that! I also think that the skit was a 100% hit, the best in this season.
Louisa, Anne Hathaway is not a horrible actress. I saw Hathaway do Shakespeare in the Park’s Twelfth Night. Anne was wonderful in that production, and she easily held her own opposite the Shakespeare vets. That takes serious talent to do that. Now, Claire Danes is talented, but, sometimes( or many times) her very dramatic over-the-top acting style, can be a major nuisance. Plus, Claire has given similar performances, since My So Called Life. I am so tired of seeing her trademark ” ugly cry. ”
And, Nikki, Anne is a major triple threat talent that is versatile. I can’t say that about Ms. Danes. Claire is only suited for melodramatic roles. Let’s see if Danes pull-off Selina Kyle or a role in a major movie musical.
Actually, it’s the other way around, and I don’t even like Hathaway much.
CynicalCritic, Claire Danes is not a triple threat talent. Her forte is doing tv dramas. That is why Danes is not in huge demand as a film actress.
I’m a fan of Veep and Newsroom, but Homeland is every bit as brilliant, and more so in a lot of respects. For one thing it has nearly a flawless cast, where both Veep and newsroom have a couple questionable choices.
But at the end of the day, I’m thrilled that there’s room for all 3 series on the TV landscape .
The Homeland sketch was so good it made me question this second rate, second season.
This wasn’t bad, it’s just not in good taste to make fun of people’s facial features.
btw Homeland is a silly show with great actors.
HOW could you say this skit missed???? THIS is maybe the best impersonation skit SNL has done in a long time. It’s DEAD-ON! And hilarious. Nikki, get over yourself. SNL is still consistently funny for at least 3 skits per night, and this was one of them.
Anne Hathaway is brilliant!
@LOUISA – if you think Claire Danes is a better actress than Anna Hathaway, then please stop watching TV. You gotta be kidding.
funny. but, as with most SNL bits, 2x too long. i wish they’d just try, once, to NOT “beat the dead horse.”
Great sketch, actually refreshing to see on SNL something such a straight-up parody so well done.
Skit was hilarious. It was funny.
I thought it was really funny.
An as avid Homeland viewer, I thought this sketch nailed it. It’s everything I love and hate about Homeland, which is really an absurdly over-the-top show. It may be entertaining, but there’s nothing subtle about it, which this sketch hit right on the head.
Homeland risking jumping the shark with its 24-esque “foreign terrorist swat team” appearing out of nowhere and its “dumb daughter” side plot.
Skit was funny and Hathaway was really good – she’s charming and solid. What’s with the complaining about it on Deadline this week?
it was funny!
Actually, it was quite hilarious. And, as much as I dislike Anne Hathaway, she had Danes to a “T”!
The reason people may not have seen the humor in this sketch is that Hathaway wasn’t exaggerating. She was merely playing Carrie just as Danes portrays her – as a bug-eyed, wild-hair-flinging, over-the-top, scenery-chewing and histrionic God-give-me-an-Emmy-or-I’ll-just-cry character.
Nikki, you are mad, because your favorite young actress, Claire Danes, was mimicked accurately. The very talented Anne Hathaway pulled it off- just like she pulled-off her believable impression Katie Holmes.
I still don’t understand why certain people are bothered by Hathaway. Is it because she is that rare celebrity that relies on her immense talent; instead of, manipulating the media and trying to find different ways to be the most popular ? Anne is one of the few young , A-list actresses that I like and respect, and believes will have a long career ahead of her.
