The network has set a 10 PM February 26 premiere date for Robot Combat League, a reality series that will showcase tournament-style battles between 8-foot humaniod robots. WWE wrestler Chris Jericho will host the show that will feature 12 teams consisting of a unique robot, a fighter controlling them with a suit that translates their movements to the machines, and a robotics engineer. Winners of each week’s fight move on to the next round. The robots are designed and created by Mark Setrakain, who has worked on creature effects on movies like Men In Black, The Grinch and Hellboy. Smart Dog Media is producing the Syfy series, with Craig Plestis serving as executive producer.

I cannot wait until this show airs. I am so excited to see the special effects from the bots. And you can’t go wrong with Jericho as a host! Well done syfy
Why don’t they just revive Battlebots. Now that was some fun stuff to watch. Though I’ll take a look at this, it’s not exactly a league if one man builds all the bots, is it?
I couldn’t agree more. Battlebots could be retooled like “The Voice” or “American Idol” for teams of gifted kids. Comedy Central was not the right fit for it, but sets of kids using real, hard science to build their own robotic machines in a competition is GOLD. I would watch instantly if it returned to the air. And goodness knows, we need more shows on TV that show kids that SCIENCE is the future as opposed to infinite shows about singing
Battlebots dude??? That was almost 15 years ago and it was a joke then. I’m ready to see some real robots fighting on two feet. Bring it on!
This is be an enormous hit for them. Just watch.
I struck up a convo at a bar this weekend with a guy who did lighting on the show, said it’s like watching two Ferraris in a demolition derby. He sounded totally psyched, said it’s “f**king awesome.” Can’t wait to see.
this has EPIC written all over it! CAN’T WAIT!
one small step for syfy, one giant leap for television!
this is exactly the kind of show they should be doing – I predict great things!
I read the EW press release and now I’m reading it here and I still can’t believe it. Giant bipedal robots duking it out?? Kind of unbelievable… if they pulled it off, good gawd could this be COOL.
this program was a total scam from beginning to end who ever that judges where it was clear they where only in it to do what the wrong
the last bout steampunck won ever round of the entire match never again will I watch this kind of farce
