Indican Pictures acquired North American rights back in August to the late Ernest Borgnine’s final film The Man Who Shook The Hand Of Vicente Fernández, which will be released in LA on December 7. The date provides an awards-qualification behind Borgnine’s final performance; the Oscar-winner died in July at age 95. Elia Petridis wrote and directed the pic, about a stubborn man who becomes the hero of his nursing home upon leading the Latino staff in a revolt against the tyrannical owner. Barry Corbin, Carla Ortiz, Dale Dickey and Tony Plana co-star.

Ernie worked everyday, long days, in the heat, for 4 weeks on this film and never complained about anything. Sad to see the title card saying it was his final performance. He could have continued to work his ass off even at 95, and his work always phenomenal, no matter
what he was dealing with.
An indefatigable trooper, no doubt, and once a great actor. But at least in this trailer it looks like the old guy forgot every acting skill he ever knew. Shouting alone doesn’t express anger. Can’t blame him of course, the producers are at fault. But maybe his name alone, and the questionable tag “his last movie” will pay off.
SaMo, he was playing a grouchy guy, of course he’d be yelling a lot — looks good, but yes, seeing that card promoting this as his last movie is sad and a bit of a shock (I would have said ‘his final triumph’ — hey, I’m a big fan) but probably it is the only way to highlight this as a new 2012 production and not a movie that had been on the shelf for years. One blessing out of all this was the fact that Ernest managed to see this movie at it’s world premiere at a film festival back in April and there is footage on You Tube and around the internet with his thoughts on the movie and that he thought it was pretty good. With the box office success of movies made for senior audiences (Judi Dench is probably one of the biggest stars of those movies in recent years), this one certainly could strike a chord and I’m sure Ernest’s fanbase around the world will want to see him go out in style in this picture.
How can you make such a comment. I saw the entire moovie and believe me the scene that gave me goose pimples all over was one where he hardly says a word and where he manages to make you feel sorry bout the world we live in……
congrats darren!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sound was amazing!!! Great film, great actors all around; Definately would see again. Very well produced and written.
