The Weinstein Company initially had planned to open the David O. Russell picture wide on Thanksgiving weekend, but now says The Silver Linings Playbook will open in about 16 theaters in 10 cities this weekend. Then it will expand into 440 locations over Thanksgiving weekend. That’s down from the company’s previous estimate of 2,000 theaters. Weinstein probably will add more cinemas weekly through December, possibly reaching 2,000+ locations after New Year’s. Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence star in the pic that has scored several key festival wins.

As long as Indy is one of the locations next Thursday!
This movie was awesome and Jennifer Lawrence has an Oscar nomination locked in the bag.
Great reviews, terrible title, and a trailer that does a lousy job of selling the film. I hope Harvey doesn’t try to ride this turkey to the Oscars! The sad fact is: No one wants to see it!
I agree- terrible title and the trailer is great either
So they’re switching to THE KING’S SPEECH plan. Smart. But this is still a movie about a hardbodied bipolar casualty who hooks up with a playboy-hot sex addict–from the minds of Harvey Weinstein and Davin O. Russel. Progressive.
Borlaug you will come to rue your words. “Silver Linings Playbook” will be this year’s “Little Miss Sunshine” and will get a guarantee Oscar nom for the wonderfully talented Jennifer Lawrence (and quite possbily Brad Cooper, too!) Its source material — a nifty, quick-read book — was impeccably written and the script adaption by David Russell is a solid read. So many movies/stories try to re-create the madness and agita of whacked-out families. But when the protagonist is a certifiable head/nutcase from the get-go, that really frees up the story to explore other rich dimensions. I think this movie will not only surprise you, Borlaug, but the Box Office and Oscar seers as well. Call it a hunch.
i really can’t wait to see this! but in my country i have to wait until january
I can’t wait for Silver Linings Playbook!….please let one of the areas showing the film be in South Jersey. If not, I’ll gladly make an hour and 15 minute drive to Philly to see the film.
Re: Borlung’s post: 1) great reviews because movie is great. 2) title is same as the book. 3. Trailer. Entitled to your opinion but trailers are irrelevant. It’s all about TV for those who don’t know or understand the business. 4. Very clever use of the word turkey as we approach Thanksgiving. Very gifted commentary on your part. 5. How do you know no one wants to see it?
Because it worked so well for Perks of Being a Wallflower.
Both of them look like great movies (I’ve only seen Perks), and both of them were platformed to death.
There goes Harvey Weinstein’s third (hundredth?) straight Oscar and my Hollywood Stock Exchange :/.
Loved this movie!
Smarter strategy
I want to see it Borlaug!
Not a fan of the whole platform strategy. The film has received excellent reviews. Maybe the feeling is that there are too many films opening and they don’t want the film to get lost in the shuffle. But you can also platform a film into oblivion.
