Last month TLC promised that the Breaking Amish: The Shunning Truth specials would “address all of the swirling rumors and allegations” that have surrounded the authenticity of the reality show. But tonight on the last of the two-part cast reunion shows, the series’ Jeremiah, Kate, Sabrina, Rebecca, and Abe were mostly circumspect about the controversies and how much of the show was fake. The five avoided answering some questions from Access Hollywood’s Michelle Beadle. And the cast insisted that many other revelations of their prior experiences with the modern world, including DUIs and previous marriages, aren’t anyone else’s business. “They can believe whatever they want but if they want to know they can watch the show,” said Rebecca about the cast’s lives. “I don’t give a [beeped out] what anybody thinks.”
Parsing their words, the cast members dismissed online critics who have said the series is bogus as “jealous” ex-Amish/Mennonites or hypocritical members of the isolated communities who are looking for someone to scapegoat. One of the
controversies centered on a picture from 2011 posted online that showed Rebecca and Abe with a baby, suggesting the couple had been together before the show. While Rebecca admitted on the November 11 season finale that she did have an infant daughter, she wouldn’t go into any details tonight. “I’m not going to tell you anything about it anymore,” she said, citing legal issues. The now-married couple did admit that they had met in their community previous to the filming of Breaking Amish earlier this year but revealed little more. “You can think whatever you want,” said Rebecca to Beadle. The identity of the father of the baby — be it Rebecca’s previous husband or Abe — has never been confirmed.
A big hit for the network, TLC has not announced if there will be another season of Breaking Amish, produced by Hot Snakes Media. It purported to chronicle five Amish/Mennonite adults ages 20-32 as they left behind their isolated community for the big city and modern world. The reunion specials, which were produced by Peacock Prods, did make clear that the cast were more familiar with the “English” world than first indicated. The cast did admit tonight that they’d all “snuck out” from their communities at one point or another, worked in “English” jobs and that several of them had been arrested for being drunk. All five insisted they are truly the people they claimed to be when the show debuted September 9. None of them live in Amish or Mennonite communities now.

so overproduced it’s insane…watch scenes not all that closely and you can see cast telegraphing moments with their eyes, looking off camera for approval etc…it’s pretty bad.
I’m very disappointed in TLC…… Do you do your homework before you let these clowns on your show!! Wtf. I watched Breaking Amish for weeks!!!! TLC is now my you suck list
What? A “reality” series was staged to make it seem more dramatic and pull in higher ratings? Say it ain’t so!
I watched that show for 10 minutes and immediately realized it was entirely fake. Young people from those communities don’t talk/act like that the second they leave their communities.
Does anyone remember when TLC used to be The Learning Channel? Well, all we’re learning these days is that not a single executive there has an ounce of morality in them. Anything for a buck. Hope you sleep well at night.
It’s all staged and fake … end of story.
i loved the show. my favorates were Abe and Rebecca. God bless them all. i hope they have a long and happy life together. what they do or have done is no ones biz but thier’s. I am 65 yrs old and have grandchildren and great-grandchildren and as long as they were happy that is all that matters.
Suckers!!! Only a moron could equate this channel with authenticity. If you only knew!!!
I don’t believe for one minute that these people have lived in the Amish Community in the recent past. Rebecca has the mouth of a truck driver. All she does is swear. Sabrina doesn’t act like she’s ever lived the Mennonite lifestyle. Actually it’s very had to believe that any of them actually ever lived the austere life of the Amish or Mennonites. I’m done watching it.
This show is so phony it makes me laugh! Do the producers actually think any person with an ounce of integrity will believe this trash?? I can’t get over how crude and ignorant the cast comes across. The only positive thing about it is we do not have to look at boobs hanging out. Believe me, I have a nice set of my own but do not have the desire to flaunt them to anyone who cares to look! Give this reality crap a rest and lets actually air something educational on “The Learning Channel”??
Your funny JJ, a set of your own. too funny
Am I the only one who is seeing the point of all the controversy? It’s not that anyone has anything against these young people. I like all of them and wish them well. But the show led us to beleive that they all JUST LEFT their communities and went to New York. I knew the jig was up when Sabrina got the biniki wax and said vagina on screen. And the swearing! They really like the F word and are used to saying it a lot. Can’t beleive they just picked that up that soon.
Take a trip anywhere where there are Amish people,I went to Lancaster Pa. two years ago, the Amish people are gentle. kind and very helpful, this show, just goes to show some people will do anything for money. money isnt the root of all evi. THE LOVE OF MONEY IS THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL.
Again, what happened to this once-proud network? It’s turned into a joke and full of stupid, useless reality shows now such as this one.
Rebbeca is a phony person, she should really get a grip on English Traditions!! The same for Abe!! Sabrina is cool and so is Jerimiah!! Kate needs to grow up…a lot!!
We all know that Rebecca and Abe are the PARENTS of the baby girl!! Come on were not stupid people!! TLC U can do better than this show!!
She said in the show that the baby was 19 months old and she got married two years ago.
That is pretty self explanatory. Everyone buys into this controversey hook line and sinker right into the network’s hands of 4 million viewers a night. That’s insane. It’s an awesome show though, I must admit.
Give me a break everyone! It’s a reality show, it’s entertainment! I enjoyed the show and I like all of them for different reasons. No matter how you look at it, they are still going to get shunned. Forget the stuff they did in the past, their life was and will be sad without their family. So stop being so hard on all of them. I wish I could keep in touch with them.
I really Agree. the show had to have recruited these bozo’s by advertising want ads. They say certain slang tv raised
Absolutely TLC had to have recruited these bozo’s by want ads . They say certain slang that only someone who has been in the tv watching world for many years would say. It should be cancelled. Bad tv. Stupid . I can’t believe they are talking about they are above reproach . Just ask them to divulge the payment of their contract and what did the producers said for them to do? If you ask those two questions of each person. If you would ask that. I am sure that would get the blood boiling. That is why they took the money!
They say “F luck
Any one that gets paid enough will say what ever they are told. The woman I interviewer should have pressured Abe to admit he was the dads of the llittle girl . You f asked to see her birth certificate?
I am
I cannot beleived I watched this program from start to finish and at the end when they had the reunion this program that I enjoyed is nothing but a con job put on by those 5 people . Far as I am concerned, I wouldn’t give these lier’s the time of day . I beleive TLC should have dug deeper on these con’s.I am so disappointed, if I could I would delete this channel from my TV. I will never trust one of TLC shows again…………Joe Martin
They should have made it a PG14
And told those hillbillys not to say ” fuck ” every 10 minutes. And if they had any idea that the show was going to be a stupid draw. They should have had agents. But the mesley $5000 dollars that tlc paid each one should have been 50000. Tell them this.
I dare you
I feel like there are no sane people left on earth after reading the comments here. How many idiots watch this channel? Do you honestly think that these 5 kids fooled the producers? Really? They got paid to do a job and say what they were told to say by the producers you dummies! lol They need to come up with a disclaimer that tells people that the people in these so called reality shows get “paid” for all of the dumb ass people that believe that they do this shit for free just to fool these poor unsuspecting producers…haha
Rebecca won’t admit who the real father is because her ex is paying child support. It may be a little rude but I don’t seem Abe and her making a lot of money and I’m sure they already wasted what they were paid to be on the show.
Might as well hang on to any income they can get.
I watched the show from the beginning, very intrigued. Now that I hear the show is fake, I wonder how I could have waisted my time watching this show!
It’s true all the signs were there, they certainly did not act very Amish!
