The cameras are rolling again on the set of TNT‘s new Dallas series following the death of co-star Larry Hagman. Hagman, who reprised his role as the villainous J.R. Ewing from the original series, died from cancer complications Friday while the show was on Thanksgiving break. Filming was originally slated to resume yesterday, but the series stayed dark out of respect for Hagman. Dallas is currently shooting Episode 6 from its 15-episode second season. Hagman worked virtually until his death and is expected to appear in all of the first six episodes. As of now, there is no hiatus planned to allow the writers to craft a proper send-off for J.R., though I hear production is ahead of schedule and can afford to do that without missing the January 28 premiere date. Dallas writers are still breaking stories and writing scripts for the remainder of Season 2, so the departure of J.R. is likely being weaved into the show’s upcoming plot lines.

Prediction:
Big numbers for first five episodes.
Even bigger number for Hagman’s final episode.
HUGE number for the first episode that addresses his death (and shows clips).
I wonder what they will do with Ken Kercheval, whose Cliff Barnes seemed to exist only as a thorn in J.R. Ewing’s side.
Well, the original concept was “Romeo & Juliet” in Texas… so the Barnes family goes on… and the Ewings go on.
Way to stunt the ratings post-Hagman?
Use his salary to lure back Victoria Principal – but this time, she’s on her brother Cliff’s side to destroy the Ewings and ex-husband Bobby.
Kill off JR then, at this funeral, have a woman (say, Faye Dunaway) show up and announce she’s JR’s wife. Nobody’s heard of any such wife so the rest of the season will be spent with everyone trying to find out if she’s really JR’s wife or just some high class con artist out to take over Ewing Oil. Spoiler alert – she IS his wife and continues on throughout the series as the new villain.
Thanx for telling us!
Better idea: have the mystery person be Pam. Bobby can spend some time tracking her down. The chemistry between Victoria and Patrick made it work. The death of JR would be a great opportunity to work her back in!
What about Cliff Barnes daugther what going happen to her remember we find out that Christopher former fiancee happen to Cliff Barnes daughter REMEMBERRRRR
Some characters may came back at J.R funeral, such as ex-wife Cally, or older son James Beaumont. Perhaps there will be a new Who shot J.R.?
I don’t think we’re going to see a parade of plot devices from the later years of the original series. James only existed because John Ross was too young to take part in the business at the time. They don’t need James now.
I know the reboot makes everyone want to say “Bring back….” each and every character, but if they don’t have anything for once-primary characters Lucy or Ray to do, they’re not going to shoehorn Cally in.
It would be great if they could “honor” JR, with a final “Who Shot JR?” storyline. Since he has to be killed off, why not come full-circle? I believe the audience would love that type of send-off.
I totally agree!! “Who Shot JR” would be a perfect final farewell
RIP Mr. Hagman, My condolescence to his family. As a little girl I was entertained by this man. He was a brilliant actor. Very talented. I don’t know what else to say.
I grew up watching Dallas and never miss an episode J R made the show. My favorites was j r and sue Ellen and of course bobby and Pam , as I remember Pam was suppose to have died in a car crash , but was suppose to still be alive and had some plastic surgery . I would loved to see pam show up this would be the perfect time at the funeral of j r . My prays go out to Larry hagmans. Family he was a great man and a wonderful actor he will sadly be missed by his fans.
I say Joan Collins Alexis Carrington swoops in to try and take over Ewing on with a Ewing Carrington Showdown that brings the two shows together into one power house night time soap…
Have Pam come back as the one that killed JR. on Dallas and Bobbie figuring it all out.
No one can replace the JR we knew played by Larry Hagman. But JR the character could still continue as a new face. Or introduce a new long lost brother who is more villainous than JR. Imagine Sam Elliott as the new JR.
How ’bout Michael Douglas as the new JR?
Who shot JR was done back in the early years…his wifey did it. I like the who killed JR better. But since nothing is like it seems with JR; bring JR back played by Sam Elliott or Michael Douglas…it works for the 007 series!
