FX has released a trailer for new drama series The Americans, which is set to premiere next year. Created by Joe Weisberg, The Americans is a period drama about the complex marriage of two KGB spies posing as Americans in suburban Washington DC shortly after Ronald Reagan is elected President. The arranged marriage of Phillip (Matthew Rhys) and Elizabeth Jennings (Keri Russell) grows more passionate and genuine by the day, but is constantly tested by the escalation of the Cold War and the intimate, dangerous and darkly funny relationships they must maintain with a network of spies and informants under their control. Complicating their relationship further is Phillip’s growing sense of affinity for America’s values and way of life. Tensions also heighten upon the arrival of a new neighbor, Stan (Noah Emmerich), an FBI agent working in counter intelligence.

Great script. TERRIBLE trailer.
FX seems to have three different types of hourlong shows. Is this the tone of Rescue Me (hourlong comedy), Terriers/The Riches/Nip Tuck (dramedy), or everything else they’ve done (straight up drama)? I’d watch it if it is one of the first two.
A couple seasons after Mad Men everyone tried to knock it off with Pan Am, Playboy Club, etc. Now everyone wants the next Homeland. Maybe this will be good. But the best shows are never clones of existing hits.
I liked this when it was Scarecrow and Mrs. King, only reversed now.
I’m very excited about this show. I love the lead actors and I actually enjoyed the trailer.
Intrigued…
What Frankie said — nothing like this on FX — but trying to create a spy thriller for FX with relationship element
I’ll watch anything FX airs…But this trailer doesn’t look good, I’m sure the show will be … but this trailer is not!
Looks like a weaker Homeland. I’m sure I’m not the only one who thinks that.
Cold war? 80′s? FX? In.
Look forward to seeing this as I did have one days work on it in NY as
The Fruit vendor. (what a handsome man) joke,,
