Blaec Lammers was charged with first-degree assault, making a terroristic threat and armed criminal action after he was arrested Thursday. Police in Bolivar, Mo, said Lammers’ mother contacted them Thursday worried that her 20-year-old son had bought weapons similar to ones used in the Aurora, Colo shooting that killed 12 moviegoers in July at a midnight screening of The Dark Knight Rises.
According to the Springfield News-Leader, officers detained Lammers, who according to a police statement said he had purchased two assault rifles and 400 rounds of ammo earlier in the week for hunting, then said he had “a lot in common with the people that have been involved in those shootings”, and that he had homicidal thoughts. He eventually said he bought tickets to a Sunday screening of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 with the intent of shooting people in the theater.
Lammers later said he decided to do the shooting at a local Walmart because he could get more ammunition there when he ran out. According to the paper, the felony complaint accuses Lammers of having “knowingly communicated to Dustin Ross (Bolivar police officer) a threat to cause shoot (sic) people at the Bolivar Walmart Store, an incident involving a danger to life, by stating the same to him, and the defendant did so for the purpose of frightening ten or more people.”

“he had purchased two assault rifles and 400 rounds of ammo earlier in the week for hunting”
Wait, you can do that?
Of course you can. Because we would never want to take away 2nd Amendment rights from any Americans, even the insane ones who want to shoot everyone up. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with our gun laws in this country or gun control, so let’s not make this about that. It was clearly the mother’s fault. Parents need to teach their children how to properly use assault rifles in a useful way…
thanx for supporting him
That’s what is called sarcasm.
God Bless America.
Or Switzerland. Or the Czech Republic. But then again, maybe if we had strong gun control, say like Mexico or Russia we’d have crime rates more to your liking.
I still can’t believe that people can get both gun and bullet supplies. I wanted to know how come no one isn’t check into the person and see why they need all these weapon and bullet.
We do conduct background checks. This guy didn’t have a criminal record… what else do you want? Maybe we just shouldn’t allow guns to people that look scary. That’s one of the neat things the Supreme Court did in it’s Dredd Scott decision, and look at how well that worked out for unarmed slaves.
There’s no waiting period in Missouri. Isn’t that nice?
It’s not a matter of if, it’s a matter of when. We Must do something as Americans to keep guns put of the hands of dangerous people.
Keeping guns out of the hands of dangerous people is a wonderful idea. But until they do something dangerous, no one will know, and by then it’ll be too late.
We MUST do SOMETHING!!! Tell me, Anita and fellow controlists, what exactly should we do? None of the ideas put forth by your ilk would have done anything to prevent Aurora or Tuscon. Gun control didn’t do a damn thing to stop all the mass shootings that took place while the so-called “assault weapons” ban was in effect (Columbine, anyone?) and it won’t do anything but piss off law abiding people if it’s re-enacted. Violent crime, murder in particular, is down drastically in this country over the past 20 years despite a loosening of gun laws.
This guys mom is a hero. It takes a huge soul to step up and turn in your son on suspicions. God bless her.
I agree that his mother is a hero. The guy has had mental problems and those can’t be blamed on the parents. I am bipolar and if I’m off my meds I get angry for no reason and want to hit someone. I’ve never thought about shooting anyone but myself but I can see how that thought could affect other people who have mental problems. I’m thankful that the mother turned her son in. I have friends in Bolivar and don’t want to see them or anyone killed.
but wouldn’t the world be a better place with less twi-hards in it?
Pretty sure that was sarcasm…
God forbids we question the sale when there’s money to be made! Anyway this mom deserves praise for saving lives.
Chicagoans are crying because they are not allowed to carry arms to protect themselves from heinous crimes committed daily — in shootings, robberies, murders, rapes, carjacking, burglaries, assaults on young and old people, e.g. an 38-year old beaten and robbed for a few dollars. Some punks like shooting just to prove themselves to their gang brethren.
Nothing to do with money. Wouldn’t you protect yourself and family from violence? Or would you just be nice and take it? Let a thug attack your child, your mom, your grandparent. Be real. Unarm families, & only thugs will have guns, Chicago being a prime case in point.
I’m from Chicago and I’m not crying. I also don’t know anyone who is. And I don’t have a gun. Don’t know what you’re talking about. Most of our “heinous crimes” you refer to are between gang members or caused by gang members who, by the way, ALL HAVE GUNS.
If your theory of “they won’t attack you if you’re packing” we’re true, why isnt it working for the gangbangers?
Maybe we should all carry guns so that the next time someone tries to shoot up a theater one of us good guys can knock him dead. “Where are my keys? I lost my gun.”
Thankfully I live in a state(Oregon), that sees no problems with concealed carry of firearms. There are quite a lot of us here, and has been relatively few problems compared to the proportion of permits issued.
I don’t leave the house without my cellphone, car keys, wallet, and a stainless .45 strapped to my hip. I have carried a gun for 28 years now. Yes, I do carry in movie theaters.
A gun isn’t a magic device that will automatically protect me or my wife from attack, I’m not naive, and that is why I probably shoot more than most Police Officers, so that I can do my part if I ever encounter a madman.
BTW, I also own an AK-74 SBR “assault weapon” and have the tax stamp issued from the Feds to prove it. I like to buy my ammo when it’s on sale, so right now I have about 3500 rounds stored up. That might shock some of you, but realize that when I go for a target practice session(Plinking), I might run thru 300 or more rounds.
I don’t hunt, but also have no plans to ever hurt anyone except any bad guy who enters my home. Try to realize that just because millions of us own these weapons we are NOT like the crazy person mentioned in the article, we are just regular folks who love guns.
Mom’s a hero, son’s a POS.
Shouldn’t assault rifles be impossible for civilians to legally purchase in all 50 states? I know, “if assault weapons are illegal, only law enforcement and hardcore criminals will have assault weapons”.
Sucks for “hunters” who require overkill to bag a deer, but at least generic scum would have to make a heroic effort (and face threat and trouble from criminals) to purchase such a weapon on the black market. We don’t have to treat it like they’re buying a case of beer.
Just my opinion. I could be wrong.
I’ll never move there !
I admire the way you Americans maintain your second amemdmant rights! Everyone should be allowed own a gun.
However why the hell does anybody need two assault rifles? How on earth are you allowed to buy fully automatic weapons without a serious waiting period? Background checks don’t matter, most crazies are normal people who snap.
Canadian, you clearly misunderstand American Firearm laws and that is okay. Having more than one ‘assault weapon’, which is a misnomer by the way, is not about need… it is about want.
I don’t need a car that can accelerate to over 100 MPH when the speed limit here averages 65, but it is something I desire. As long as I own and use both the vehicle(and weapon) in a legal and proper manner, as the VAST majority of ‘assault weapon’ owners do, I see no reason to restrict ownership of either.
For your information, while fully-automatic weapons are legal in many states here in the US, they are VERY expensive and the hurdles to owning one can be interesting.
You cannot just walk into a store here as a regular citizen, buy a machinegun, and take it home. DOES NOT HAPPEN.
You have to submit paperwork to the BATFE along with fingerprints, photos, proof of citizenship, etc. Some of this can be avoided if you want to register the ownership of the weapon to a legal Trust( as I did with my SBR), but that paperwork still has to be drawn up, notarized and submitted to the Feds as well. On top of that you need to give them $200.
The current wait time to get the paperwork checked, and your personal background checked is now averaging between 4-7 months because of political issues and budget cuts.
You can buy your machinegun, but it stays in the dealers safe until you receive the okay from the Feds all those months later.
BTW, just so you don’t think that America’s streets are flooded with machineguns, no new ones have been created for public sale since 1986. That’s why the price for a single weapon costs thousands now. Hope this information helps.
Point is, gun owners should have to go through a criminal background check AND a psychological screening, IMO. That would cut down on a lot of the nonsense.
Murder doesn’t begin in the heart of the gun. The gun has no heart. It is not alive. Murder can and does begin in the heart of a human. If you took away the guns, the murderer would find some way else to murder. Society is sick and getting worse. Sadly, there is need of protection from a sick society sometimes and guns do just that – provide protection. We have kicked God out of everything and mocked Him. Then we wonder why our kids act like animals. Maybe it is time to bring Him back into our hearts and lives. And while we are at it. . .the death penalty, too. Ex.21:12
How about we control the diet of murderous imagery going into the minds of viewers? Any connection between blood sucking vampires and a desire to end life? Naaa, leave us alone, we want our sick and depraved entertainment!
Do you actually live in Chicago, Protect, or do you just read pulp novels of gangsters and G Men? Chicagoan is absolutely right. I’m not crying either and I actually live in the city. The gangs are shooting each other and the police. I don’t fear for my life every minute of the day and I don’t own a gun.
