There will be plenty of praise for Mirren and Hopkins but what already sticks out for me is Danny Elfman’s score. The guy is impossibly gifted. His composition laid underneath the ‘Psycho’ scenes does a brilliant job of blending in but not ripping off Bernard Herrmann’s work.
Now tell me again why I have to watch a commercial for John Deere before I can watch a commercial for Fox Searchlight.
I. AM. THERE!
Is it just me, or does this seem like a borderline bad joke, not to mention very on the nose? The redo of Psycho in color didn’t work, and I’m not all that sure this will either.
Instead, I think I’ll read Rebello’s book again. Anybody know what he thinks of the movie?
Rebello was at the screening last night at the American Cinematheque, and he was enthusiastic. The movie is stylized as hell, breaks the fourth wall in the first minute, and takes substantial liberties with the facts as presented in Rebello’s book, but it’s quite entertaining and I liked it a lot.
I don’t think the Hitch’s face/makeup is working.
Hopkins has the voice, expressions, mannerisms down pat, but boy that plastic face is horrendous. Toby Jones in the Girl looked better.
ah, I love Helene Mirren, I hope she gets an oscar nomination!
Totally agree. What is the point using a talented actor play a famous figure when
with all the make up the actor looks NOTHING like the figure he portrays. I keep reminding myself: “It’s Hitchcock, it’s Hitchcock!” ?
