Black List writer Thompson Evans and Warren Littlefield’s Littlefield Co. have teamed for drama projects that have sold to Fox and NBC. Fox’s Night Hunters is about undercover NYC police officers who pose as taxi drivers. ABC Studios is producing. NBC’s Max General, from Universal TV, takes place in the trauma division of a big city hospital. Evans executive produces both projects with the Littlefield Co.’s Littlefield and Ann Johnson. Evans, repped by Gersh and Code Entertainment, has had two scripts on the Black List, one of which, Eli Webb Show, sold to Relativity Media. CAA-repped Littlefield Co. also has Metropolis, a drama from Rob Thomas set up at the CW; Fargo, written by Noah Hawley based on the Coen Brothers’ 1996 feature film, at FX; as well as The Damned, based on the Oni comic book series and written by David Hayter, at Showtime and CBS Prods.

Holy moly, that sounds awful. Who comes up with these ideas??
“Fox’s Night Hunters is about undercover NYC police officers who pose as taxi drivers”
Holy moly, that sounds terrible. Who comes up with these awful ideas, and more importantly, why would any network even think of airing this?
The Concept sound like it could turn into a formulaic crime procedural considering it’s on a broadcast channel. Kinds of reminds me of the CBS show Hack. Fox may actually let another show try to be a complex crime drama. Since it did cancel The Chicago Code broadcast TV last attempt at complex crime drama.
Cop show, doctor show, snore, broadcast still doesn’t get why their ratings are cratering. Judging from the insipid show concepts for 2013-14 so far, next season’s ratings will be even worse.
Cop,Doctor, Lawyer shows have always been broadcast bread and butter in the 1 hour drama department. Broadcast real problem is execution and quality. The Best cop shows and crime dramas are on cable. Pretty much every doctor show on TV right is basically a soap opera. With the exception of The Good Wife no other lawyer show is bringing original substance to the genre.
I would love to see broadcast make more attempts at Science Fiction and Fantasy show but considering how NBC Revolution is doing creatively. They would have to actually be ambitious and have an ensemble of interesting characters.
Warren Littlefield mundanely soldiers on.
Evans is not only a great writer but also has a killer three point shot. Used to date some crazy chicks in the old days though.
Love that guy. Congrats to him and Warren!
They both sound like winner shows. networks need more action shows that have good characters we feel like we really know. Enough reality and singing and dancing. This Evans guy sounds like he is trying to bring back the kind of tv we adults have been missing for a long time. Hurry up and put them on air!
I honestly don’t think the networks care all that much about concept. I think it’s really about who they’re excited to work with. I think they mostly believe anything can work and want to be in business with people who’ve had a big hit or at least done this before or have a lot of heat. The real problem about execution for the nets is they can’t be content with a couple million viewers which is all Mad Men or Homeland deliver. So they have to broaden things out, dumb things down. That’s why their drama are almost without exception, flat, dull and unoriginal.
Yes, the big mistake is ignoring concepts and just trying to be in business with a particular flavor de jour. If the networks want to get their ratings up, they have to reverse that priority list. Nobody in middle America gives a damn about the pedigree of a writer or producer, they are roped in by a good story. Period.
