After Earth is the latest pairing of Will Smith and his son Jaden, after 2006′s The Pursuit Of Happyness. The sci-fi pic from director M. Night Shyamalan got a Comic-Con push this summer when Sony touted the massive mythology created around the story, about a father and son who crash-land on a hostile Earth 1000 years after cataclysmic events forced humanity’s escape. As the father, a famed general, lies dying, the son must strike out on his own to recover their rescue beacon. Sony’s Columbia Pictures releases the film on June 7, 2013.

Can’t wait not to see this. Enjoy Will Smith, but his son is dreadful, and this nepotism is disgusting. I look forward the autopsy on this mess.
Having a dad that’s a great actor does not translate genetically, Jaden gotta earn those stripes. However, nepotism is not disgusting, it’s just access. Beware of your hypocrisy; if you had that kind of access, would you NOT take the gig? C’mon man.
I wouldn’t. Unless I had acting lessons first and had polished my craft. Do you want everyone calling you a tool because you take roles that your DAD got for you? When you’re not good in your part? Jaden doesn’t need the money.
That being said I thought he was just fine in The Karate Kid. I liked it better than the original.
Sophia Coppola in Godfather 3 anyone?
Like any successful business, Hollywood partakes in nepotism – it is only apparent in this case because it is known that they are related and the Smiths do not hide that fact (which is actually refreshing). Do you realize how many folks in Hollywood are related or are just a few degrees of separation from one another? You never hear of nepotism in other cases — the Sutherlands, the Sheens, the Coppolas, who include Sofia Coppola and Nicolas Cage (born Nicolas Kim Coppola), the Richardsons, the Barrymores, Helen Hunt (Gordon Hunt’s daughter), Kate Hudson (Goldie Hawn’s daughter) — do you think they would have gotten the opportunities they have without their heritage? What is the difference? In any other business it is ok to build a family dynasty (the Trumps, the Romneys, etc.) and pass on the family business…why not in the Hollywood industry? They want their children to carry the torch and build on what they have created – what’s wrong with that? Jaden is young and he is learning – he will no doubt continue to improve on his craft.
AFTER EARTH = slight prequel to OBLIVION
Will Smith’s accent = Morgan Freeman’s. At the end of AFTER EARTH, after a time cut, Smith’s character is played by Morgan Freeman and we pick up this storyline in OBLIVION.
Smart!
hahaha
I thought Will Smith’s accent = The Matrix Laurence Fishburne’s Morpheus, “He’s beginning to believe.”
Funniest post in months.
GENIUS!
This looks awesome! This really could be M. Night Shymalan’s comeback movie. cause lor knows its his last chance. his looms like “Avatar” and “Promehteus” mixed together. But in any event from the Distinctive Visuals/look to the eerie tone this has hit written all over it.
If Sony had Any sense they would give this a IMAX release to help its commercial prospects. especially since Will Smith is the most bankable star in the world. “Night” better send him a thank you note.
looked horrible to me, and M. Hight is awful…..another Unbreakable.
Movie that we’ve seen before + Blatant nepotism = Turd of a movie.
PASS!
It looks ok. Will stop pushing that untalented child on the public
Will has to punch an alien in the face and tell him: Welcome to Earf!
Let’s see…Jaden Smith…M. Night Shyamalan, heck, why not add Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum and make it the most unbearable movie of all time?
21 Jump Street was awesome, Roger.
I like how M. Night isn’t mentioned ANYWHERE in the trailer, they don’t even put a credit page on the end.
Look who’s trying to stay far away from that bomb maker.
Wonder how that makes him feel, with his HUGE ego???
Or maybe he wasn’t credited simply because his name would have had had certain connotations?
That’s the point he was making.
You can’t really use “it’s earth” as the final button when every scene proceeding it looks exactly like earth.
A couple of questions. If these things have evolved to kill humans, after 1,000 years, wouldn’t they have evolved again to deal with different threats? Wouldn’t the animals have human thought processing? Stupid movie.
Finally! Not another dumbed down sci fi action movie. This actually looks like an intelligent, original take on the genre. I can’t stand anymore sequels. Shyamalan deserves another chance. Cinematography looks amazing too!
HAHAHAHA!!! That was too funny!!! Oh, the sarcasm!!! Rich…
I am very sad to say that the ugliness of these posts is only outweighed by their truthfulness.
LOL!
Bingo!
M. Night Shyamalan, Will and Jaden Smith, and Sony Pictures doing a sci-fi pic? Sounds like a real recipe for success, hehehe..NOT!
This looks hilariously bad. The dialogue is so stiff. “Everything has evolved… TO KILL HUMANS!”
“FEAR DOES NOT EXIST… FEAR IS A CHOICE.”
Wouldn’t that mean fear existed? If it were a choice and all?
I’d say that’s so funny it’s scary but fear doesn’t exist. Oh wait it does, it’s a choice … Wait, so maybe choices don’t exist? Oh they must both exist because the studio felt fear and chose NOT to M. Knights name anywhere.
It looks like Will dies in the movie and it’s all about his son surviving in a jungle. Zzzzzzz boring.
he said fear isnt real
Calling it right now, it will be Earth of the past or some such B.S. What a Twist!
HA! This MUST be the ending, great call.
Yep the old Rod Serling twist ending from many Twilight Zone episodes.
Men in Tights.
This looks epic. Can’t wait to see it!
This looks great. I know M Night has a lot of haters but this could be his comeback.
This looks tragic! Can’t wait to skip it!
OBLIVION looks way better. Next!
This works only if audiences care about the characters and frankly, my dear, I don’t give a damn.
“Can’t wait not to see this. Enjoy Will Smith, but his son is dreadful, and this nepotism is disgusting. I look forward the autopsy on this mess.”
If the son was NOT Jaden Smith, then I would be interested, but just watching those clips….the dude CANNOT act. Got a lot more chops to grow.
This looks…comical. Hopefully it’s a halfway decent popcorn flick, but between this and Oblivion I’m more interested in the latter.
Just awful. Now there is a serious contender for the “2013′s biggest turd”. Uninspired “by the books” dialogue + lame trailer + Wooden Jaden + Twisty M.Night + “Trying too hard to look serious” Will = Inescapable mess
As usual, a lot of harsh posts for a trailer that was quite good. There are more incidences of nepotism in Hollywood that I care to count, but let’s withhold judgment until the movie comes out, shall we?
Last time I checked, these dudes put out decent content separately and together–
Kirk and Michael Douglas
Donald and Kiefer Sutherland
Rance and Ron Howard
Martin and Charlie Sheen
Tom and Colin Hanks
Jerry and Ben Stiller
