EXCLUSIVE: Here is a great holiday gift for soap fans: I’ve learned that Prospect Park has revived its plan to continue cancelled ABC daytime dramas All My Children and One Life To Live online. I hear the company behind USA hit Royal Pains has inked deals with SAG-AFTRA and DGA for the soaps’ production, eyed to begin in the first quarter of 2013. UPDATE: Reps for DGA and SAG-AFTRA have confirmed to Deadline that the unions have reached agreements with Prospect Park.
Rich Frank & Jeff Kwatinetz’s Prospect Park made a licensing deal with ABC in July 2011 to keep OLTL and AMC alive for online distribution on their Online Network, which was slated to launch in the first quarter of 2012. But after difficult negotiations with the guilds, the company last November pulled the plug on its plans, despite securing a slew of OLTL and AMC actors to reprise their roles. While the online venture was formally dead, I hear Frank and Kwatinetz never lost hope, and had been quietly working since the summer on putting their plan back together and had been talking with the guilds, resulting in agreements with SAG-AFTRA and DGA. (The status of talks with WGA is unclear.) I hear there are preliminary discussions with actors from All My Children and One Life To Live to rejoin the revived shows. Prospect Park refused to comment.
The news comes at a fortuitous time, as the four remaining daytime soaps on TV are having a strong ratings showing, all posting gains vs. last year.

I’ll only believe it if it’s real. Prospect Park played with everyone’s emotions once. Fool me twice…
I agree, but oh, it would be wonderful!
I agree…..and I would be surprised if they did both shows. Since they’ve integrated OLTL characters so well into GH perhaps they could find a similar way to amalgamate AMC and OLTL
I read A.B.C.Has to let them go that’s in the deal. I say not fair!
This will be wonderful if it is true!!
Wonderful is right,if this is true..I’ve never been able to watch GH since the migration of some of the characters from OLTL..It just isn’t the same…
Agnes Nixon Nixon confirmed it on her official Facebook page on 1/4/12. No details yet on internet channel/website.
1/4/13…have to get used to writing 13
This is the best holiday miracle we’ve ever gotten; we’ve worked so hard to make our dreams a reality.:)
WTF!!!!
I hope this happens. I’ve missed my shows for so long. think about it, the shows that are still on tv have higher ratings because the people who watched AMC & OLTL started watching other shows.
Shhhhh – don’t say it out loud. Maybe “they” won’t think about that. : )
I would love to see it happen
I agree and hope this happens. Please, please realize that the soaps…ALL OF THEM have fans in Canada and be sure this will be available here as well. More viewers, more fans can only sweeten this deal for any concerned about enough viewers…WE ARE HERE IN CANADA TOO!!!
From your keyboard to God’s ear Nellie! If this is true, what greater holiday gift to soap fans but why no confirmation from Prospect Park??? Wouldn’t they naturally want interest to build for these projects?
I do not believe this at all. Not going to happen.
This would be a dream come true….if it’s true.
This is false! It will not happen. If, by some chance it does, the ‘shows’ will have so many new actors and different sets that they will be unrecognizable.
So what if there are many new faces and if the sets are different? Was the previous cast really such a talented group of actors and were the sets so realistic? The comfort and familiarity that AMC provided those of us who had been watching for decades was the thing. Bring it back!
That is not true what you are saying Sue. The actors that had signed on to Prospect Park were not able to make even a guest appearance on GH. That is why Natalie has only been mentioned. At one of the press tours the producer said how much he wanted Melissa Archer on the show but she coudln’t because of her contract with Prospect Park. I agree Margot so what if they have to make some changes, if the show had survived on ABC by now there would have been many changes. Look at any soap in a given year at how many new characters are introduced? How many leave? If it does come back we’ll just have to wait and see.
Sorry,?Prospect Park is on the inter- net or T.V.? I would like to watch it. Can you please answer thanks so much.
I am not falling for this again.
Nice try.
If All my Children comes back maybe they change the title like The GrandChildren of All My Children or some other catchy title…thanks Eileen T Pierre
Yeah don’t believe a word of it, plus not a word was mentioned about MONEY, they have none
I don’t believe it’s going to happen either. There is no way they can afford to do this online (where are they going to get the revenue to mount these productions?) and have the same quality soap. Not to mention that they no longer have a studio to record these shows and the sets/costumes etc were already sold off – everything would have to be purchased/build from scratch. I would have been more optimistic if they were going to cable with this and cutting it back to 2 or 3 times a week rather than every day. If they somehow are able to pull this off, these shows will be a shell of their former selves.
Perhaps the storyline could be like the horrible tornado that hit Pine Valley, and killed Babe. Everyone lost their homes and all of their belongings and had to start over.
I don’t remember hearing anything about the sets and such being sold off. If the actors were being held by their contracts then they might not have been able to sell them. I have seen from other shows items hitting ebay but not from OLTL or AMC. As far as revenues I’m sure they will have some corporate sponsors, product placement, and some commercials that you will have to watch as on many network websites. I hope that they will end up like netflix and hulu on devices that can be played on tv.
I hope this is true. And I also hope they follow through with their original plan, which was to air them on cable as well– all should be able to watch these wonderful shows.
I hope if this is true, we will be able to watch them from Canada
Putting the shows on cable would NOT be good for those viewers who cannot afford to subscribe to cable, nor for those who live in areas not served by cable. That would leave out a LARGE number of viewers.
i’ll believe it when I see it!
My thoughts exactly ( without the exclamation point) … IF Prospect Park can make a go of this without the okay & googwill of WGA and without all the sets , costumes and cast they had previously ,,,,it will be a very warm January-February in NYC indeed…. That will be quite the soufflé they whip together in a hurry … Don’t let the oven door slam, ya know?!?!
googwill? uh , no , I meant goodwill…
This would really be a great holiday miracle! Well, at this point, I don’t even consider it a miracle because it’s become clear that soap fans won’t back down and that we haven’t lost interest in our soaps. Really hoping they come to cable too!
I surely wish this were true…………..I dearly miss OLTL and AMC. I’m not getting my hopes up but will stay tuned…………..
I am falling for it. I know that there has been a ton of flack after the deal fell apart and if it is true, I believe that there will be quite a few out of work actors and actresses who will go for it. I don’t see how Frank and Ron could handle, if needed, the extra responsibility. So I will believe it when I see it.
Hoping these shows are shopped to a cable network as well. SoapNet would have made perfect sense.
Praying this is true this time around. I also think cable is a far better idea, or at least a good idea in conjuncture with internet. Dallas was a success, the 4 remaining soaps are doing really well… and AMC & OLTL weren’t doing as badly as ABC made it seem.
Why didn’t you report that the rights to AMC reverted back to ABC in Sept. and OLTL’s revert back next month
From what’s been reported, ABC had no interest in extending the rights to PP.
I honestly would rather have OLTL & AMC DVD’s. cause PP is inept and will eff this up royally
Hey! Why not Guiding Light and As The World Turns!!! They deserve a comeback, too!!!!!
I need for this to be true! Please bring OLTL & AMC to cable too!
Yea PLEASE BRING BACK GUIDING LIGHT AND AS THE WORLD TURNS !!!!
Yes they do….
Praying this is true. I’ve missed OLTL so much. Hoping these go to cable.
Can anyone really blame Prospect Park for having no comment on these developments? Soap fans are pretty lucky PP even still WANTS to be involved in these projects after the way they were treated (harassing emails, countless phone calls, even death threats). If I were them I would’ve hightailed it to the woods long ago. Have we learned anything since last time? Probably not. SUPPORT THEM! They are the ONLY ones who are interested in these shows. Be thankful someone is. Let them work this out. Show your support and keep your negativity to yourselves because some of us, TRUE soap fans, want our shows back and WILL support them.
Had it not been for the soap fans, PP wouldn’t have a vested interest in bringing these soaps back. Soap fans have been supportive of PP, but you must remember that these shows only will succeed with the fans. Soap fans have been burned twice over the last year and half: I can’t think of another time in TV history when shows have been canceled twice in one year. The bottom line is that if PP won’t bring these soaps back, someone else will. There’s just too much of an interest in these shows, no matter what people say about soap fans.
@ Janice, I also don’t ever remember a time when fans had the right to interfere during development of a TV show. Since when is it ok to make demands that we’ll only watch if its on cable, specific network, with specific characters, or else? We now see how far all our demands have gotten us. Nowhere. Yes, without the fans the shows have no value. But for the REAL fans (the ones who’ll watch if its only online at first, doesn’t have ALL the same cast, etc) those things didn’t matter. We just wanted our show. However we could see it. That is real support. Not death threats. I’m sorry, but where are all these people that are interested in these shows? Surely had there been some PP wouldn’t have had such a hard time. Since THEY are in fact trying to bring us these shows, why not try and support them?
Thank you Karen! I agree with your wonderfully written response!
Karen,
While I agree that soap fans have SOME culpability in the PP fiasco of last year, the major problem was that PP refused to engage with us at all. Not that we needed to know every detail, but we deserved to at least be kept in the loop. Soap fans WANT to support PP, but not at the expense of being kept in the dark again. THAT’S where the majority of the hostility towards PP comes from, IMO
I’m right there with you Karen. People need to stop hurling hate and doubt at the only source that’s trying to give us back our shows. I have turned to netflix series and banned ABC for what they’ve done. My children are not allowed to watch ABC daytime for any reason in my home, regardless of age. I watch other networks for the news. I’m seriously committed to supporting the return of our soaps AMC and OLTL!
While Karen made some good points about the extreme behavior of some soap fans, and supporting a company interested in resurrecting AMC and OLTL, soap fans have valid reasons to distrust Prospect Park. Striking deals with some of the unions is a far cry from being ready to bring the shows back into production next year, and if it was a too expensive and complicated endeavor last time, it’ll be more so now without sets, wardrobe, a studio, crew, writers, and actors all ready to go. This deal was mis-handled from the get go, if it was ever serious in the first place, and there’s little to suggest it should be taken seriously now.
A Big Ditto to You!
We need to be positive about a possible return of our favorite soaps. Shame on all you nay sayers! Stop your Bitching!!!!
Well said Karen. We need to support PP.
Alright PP come on with a press release and make this official!!
So will Todd, Star, and John go back to landview or stay in port chuck?
Hopefully this just not end with many of the actors and actress hold hostage for a year. (GH already had storylines set up for Ted King and the actress who plays Natline.)
The actors can be on both shows.
That would be difficult.
I had heard a while ago Natalie could not even make a guest appearance on GH because of her contract with PP.
Instead of everyone blaming PP don’t forget the reason it didn’t work was because of the Actor’s unions. If this article is true they can now move ahead since they have inked a deal with them.
If it’s true, please air them on cable too! I’d like for my grandparents to be able to see their shows again.
Too many of the actors have moved on. When this was first in the works I was all for it but now I think its better just to leave it as is. They’re not going to get enough returning actors back. Just leave it be with the crappy endings and all.
So true Ash PP had the attention of the actors from both shows and most were prepared to sign on. Too much time has past and these Actors still needed to eat and support their families so they had no option but to move on. I`d love to see the shows back, but the carpet was pulled out from under us once and my thought is PP just blowing smoke to see if they can get a fire started under us yet again.
