After declining to comment when word on some of its pilot orders recently got out, Amazon Studios, the original film and series production arm of Amazon.com, today announced its first original slate of six comedy pilots from industry veterans and Hollywood newcomers. These are Amazon’s first green lights since the studio expanded into original programming development earlier this year. In addition to projects from professional writers, Amazon also went after ideas by aspiring creators solicited through Amazon Studios’ site. Once the six pilots are completed, they will be posted on Amazon Instant Video for Amazon customers to watch for free. Viewer feedback will help determine which of them will be picked up to series. “Since launching our original series development effort, we have received more than 2,000 series ideas from creators around the world with all different backgrounds, and we are extremely excited to begin production on our very first set of pilots,” said Roy Price, Director of Amazon Studios.

Sounds like fun. I’ll be watching.
Just as viable and interesting as anything being developed at the broadcast and cable networks.
Will these be IATSE?
Who cares, it’s internet, unions don’t have to meddle in everything. If people want to work, union or not let them, and let them make it anywhere.
They will probably have the freedom that the stuff on broadcast networks doesn’t.
Give it a few more years and Hollywood; Broadcast networks will be dinosaurs in television.
Funny, I was just sitting on my couch last night watching the thousands of channels on network and cable TV and thinking, “They should create MORE shows!!!!!”
Definitely sound a lot better than the garbage the networks are picking up these days.
This is just the tip of the iceberg, folks. By 2020 the broadcast networks will see a significant portion of their audience spending their time watching these type shows online. And I assume these will be ad free – supported by members of Amazon Prime. Smart move.
Will these be IATSE ?…Good question,Greg. If the answer is “Yes”…it will probably be one of their, “no-nonesense/no benefits” discount,..pennies-on-the-dollar,..way-under-scale,new media, deferred pay rate contracts.
well they may have received 2000 ideas from around the world but unfortunately all 6 ideas they ‘greenlit’ aren’t from any of them. clearly, as listed above, they are working with hollywood writers. way to be different guys! what happens when your viewers don’t like or vote on any of these ideas?
Not the last one, Those Who Can’t
Why does every show seem to be about slackers?
they’re all workplace comedies to boot
Groovy… GO GRAWLIX GUYS!!!
Those Who Can’t is the best script by far. I read ‘em. Rooting for the new guys. They’re actually not new. Their Grawlix web series is F—ig HILARIOUS. Virtuoso writers/performers (Cayton-Holland, Roy, Orvedahl), Directors (Nix Bros,) producer (Andy Juett) and from what I here, they have 100 more episode ideas that’ll have us locked. Hope they have the foresight to give these guys the juice.
Really? This is the script where teachers plant heroin in a student’s locker, right? That was the point where I chucked the pilot across the room.
Um. Yeah. Grawlix dudes. Let ‘em loose on America’s caboose.
Great, Amazon creates TV programs without the need to please advertisers need for the 18-49 group, and they ignore everyone but the group the networks aim at. Way to appeal to those of us seeking something different. That one to ten share of TV Viewers are thrilled.
REALLY looking forward to Those Who Can’t! Both the Grawlix guys and the Nix Bros kill it.
GO GRAWLIX! Those Who Can’t!
I can’t wait to see what those Grawlix dudes did this time. The rest of their stuff is frickin’ hilarious.
Nice to see they they at least 1 non-insider show lined up (Those Who Can’t).
Holy teets. Those Who Can’t. Don’t even need to see the others. GRAWLIX. Nix Bros. Juett. FUCK YEAH x INFINITY SYMBOL.
Grawlix/Nix/Juett show. Please make the right choice Amazon Studios. Another Onion show should only be made if you take Those Who Can’t and whatever Kristin Schaal does. Thanks.
Not even a question. Please give the Grawlix, Nix Bros and Andy Juett a stage Amazon Studios! They ARE content monsters. Give ‘em a checkbook y’all. Give ‘em a stage.
They all sound like total stinkers. PASS!
The show about the high school teachers is different! It is sooo funny and tongue in cheek! The guys who pulled it off have a passion! I’d like to see More!!!! THose Who Can’t!!!!! Definitely!
Give The Grawlix a go. That whole crew is hilarious.
Those Who Can’t. They’ve got everybody and they’re ALL smart as fuck.
