Ben Affleck has dropped out of the Warner Bros con-artist comedy Focus. Word is Affleck didn’t feel he had the time to make the April start date because of his numerous other commitments. Affleck has been busy promoting Argo during awards season and is involved in several other projects. Kristen Stewart co-stars as an inexperienced con artist in Focus, which is being directed by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa.

Maybe Warner should totally drop this project or get another actress. Unfortunately, Stewart carries a lot of bad baggage with her and this might be a problem for some actors who would not want to become associated with unsavory remarks due to circumstances that Stewart has created for herself.
And her married lover didn’t help create those circumstances? What about all the men (including, according to rumors, Affleck) who get caught stepping out on their significant others? Are they unsavory too?
Stewart’s married ex lover isn’t an actor and won’t be responsible for drawing people to theaters, so your reasoning is faulty. Equally faulty is your assumption that rumors of infidelity are the same as admitting to infidelity, which the director Stewart was banging did.
Probably best for Affleck to back out. Comedies are not his strong suit.
What’s Matthew McConaughey’s number?
Schedule conflict is a nice way of saying I don’t want to work with that no talent actress just signed. *cough*Kristen Stewart*cough* Good move Affleck. Protect your legacy.
Thank God. Love Ben, but he’s a horrible actor. Kristen Stewart should never be cast opposite someone less talented than her. Haven’t the Twilight films taught us anything?
Always nice to see that the tweens are posting. You have to be the only person on Earth who thinks that Stewart is a better actor than Affleck.
Smart move on Affleck’s part, this movie wreaked of Gigli Part II and we would’ve had to endure the “KrisBen” hybrid name in 2013, who needs that especially Affleck? After Argo why would you do a rom-com with a controversial starlet who is a tabloid target herself. Ben knew this was a bad idea as soon as KStew signed on, if his co-star was Jessica Chastain or Jennifer Lawrence, he would still be attached. Ben/Kristen pairing was doomed before they even shot a frame. Affleck may have saved his marriage for another year.
I don’t know where to begin cutting down that drivel you just spouted, Jane
News bulletin (which BY THE WAY is easily searchable in your nearest browser): before Stewart ever publicly confirmed she was doing the film – which was only a week ago…Affleck was talking to media outlets about WANTING to work with her. Affleck name dropped Stewart, before she was even confirmed and officially attached. So your ‘theory’ equals FAIL. If he felt as you say, why not work to get her booted, not talk her up.
Sorry Jane, obsessed with Stewart much? Your hate is a bit overboard babe, and your ‘theories,’ are unsupported and weak. I knew, given the maniacs that attack this kid for every eye twitch, there’d be some of you over here bloviating, and creating fiction. LOL Nice try.
don’t think for a moment that it’s not possible that his reps knew Kristen was to be signed, had Ben publicly praise her and say how he would love the chance to work for her, fulling know that once she was definitely signed he would back out … just so it wouldn’t look like he backed out because of her … regardless of their talent or lack thereof, they just are not a good onscreen match
Please, jennifer Lawrence is highly overrated, and got lucky with some movies. She is only a little more talented than Stewart. Hunger Games did well, not because of Lawrence, but because of the book’s huge following. Notice The Silver Linings Playbook is not doing well at the box-office ( even with Bradley Cooper co-starring) . After a couple of months of release, The Weinstein Co. still have the movie in a couple hundred theatre screens- not on thousands of movie screens.
another very vexed KStew’s stan… .
Dear Hollywood,
Whoever you cast to replace Ben, can you make sure it isn’t someone who is old enough to be Kristen’s father?
Thanks.
Dear HW Studios, Casting agents,
Please steer away from Kristen Stewart. There are tons of other actresses out there that have more talent and respect from the public. She is a bad influence and any actor or film attached to her will suffer from bad publicity. This action by Ben Affleck just shows that some actors would not want to tarnish their images and would rather work w/ other actresses w/ a cleaner bill of public image.
Thanks.
1955 called and wants you back. Do you feel the same way about the numerous male stars that have been caught up in scandalous situation? Does no one remember Russell Crowe getting photographed making out with a very married with children Meg Ryan? Jude Law? Etc? If you want to bitch about her lack of talent, I get it. But this whole “she’s damaged goods, let’s slap a scarlet letter on her, bad bad reputation” is screwed up.
In case you’ve been living in a cave for the last 10 years (coming out only to watch each Twilight movie 23 times) Crowe’s box office drawing power went way downhill after he helped to break up Meg Ryan’s marriage. He was unpopular even before he threw a phone at a desk clerk.
Oh cat lady, would you FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, give it UP and get off this kid’s ass?! You will not be NEXT for Edward Cullen/RPatz, no matter how hard you rail against her on the internet. DAMN, I’m so glad this girl has security, you obsessed Pattinson crazies are fcking NUTS!! Attention: Stewart is NOT Hitler, or Bin Laden – she just happens to be doing the deed with your fantasy lust object, but that does not mean she deserves more wrath than Adam Lanza. You freaky mad cows are a truly frightening sad bunch.
Good taste on Ben’s part. He do a heckuva lot better for himself than Kristen Stewart.
What are you talking about? Affleck’s on record talking up Stewart as his co-star before she was even confirmed for the film. Obviously, he at one time had no problems working with her.
.
Oh, and please don’t tell us how much better Affleck can ‘do for himself,’ – the guy in the last few years, has acted in those cheesey crappy cast of 10,0000 celebrities ensemble rom coms, and acted opposite master thespian Jennifer Aniston, so it’s not like Stewart is a come down.
Some of you are putting way too much importance on tabloids. Ben Affleck just filmed a commercial film (Runner, Runner). The guy is writing, directing, and starring in his next film and planning on directing a Whitey Bulger biopic. Those last two films are pure Oscar bait. Plus, there are rumors he wants to get into politics. Why would he waste his time on another commercial film? Sure, maybe the fact that she is “controversial” (stupid, because plenty of people in Hollywood have done the same exact thing) played a small part. Perhaps if it had been someone like Emma Stone, he may have stayed in the film. Doubt it was the main reason he dropped
out of the film, though. There just wasn’t really another reason for him to do two popcorn flicks in a row.
Read the script (liked the guys previous works), the male character was supposed to be in his early 30s. I’m curious as to who they will cast.
Honestly, I can think of no better actor to replace Ben Affleck in Focus than Billy Burke.
I’m not surprisse all. I felt Affleck was very much eager to get away from this mess with Kstew. The excuse of schedule conflict is a bit light, if we take a look at his IMDB page ….. I believe that if Emma Stone was still attached to the project, Affleck would still be too. I hope this put KStew to her rightful place: do tiny indie film that no one will see, at best.
