Chad Michael Murray is in negotiations to join the cast of Left Behind. The former One Tree Hill actor would be playing the role of journalist Cameron “Buck” Williams in the end-of-the-world thriller. Nicolas Cage is also starring in the Left Behind reboot. The film is based on the first of the 16 bestselling faith-based novels written by Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins. Left Behind was first adapted for a series of low budget movies starring Kirk Cameron starting in 2001. Family Screen Partners are producing. Murray is repped by the Gersh Agency and Brillstein Entertainment Partners.
Deadline's Dominic Patten - tip him here.

Believe me, the odds of them even remotely getting this movie right are quite slim… Especially if Nicholas Cage is involved… This will be Chad’s first Christian-based Revelation’ish movie since his small part in Megiddo…
I hope you hire Peter Coyote to VO everything that you write:
“This will be Chad’s first Christian-based Revelation’ish movie since his VERY small part in Megadildo…”.
I’ll be leaving myself behind at home when this comes out.
LOL!
Ouch. This is a career low even for him.
Lolz, I think he’d be willing to take anything for money. I haven’t seen him in anything since he left One Tree Hill years ago.
Looks like they’re going the dumb route with this knucklehead… ah well…
Thanks for the warning. Kind of sad to see mainstream actors affiliating with right wing hate groups, but I suppose they need the money.
Don’t worry… I’m sure they haven’t sold out their Satanic left wing loving groups… How foolish human nature is when it blindly believes its own humanistic take on morality supersedes that of its creator… But don’t you worry… You’ll love Lucifer’s version of Jesus so you keep that carnal rational in tact, ya hear? Don’t ever have faith in Bible and you’ll be home free, if you don’t mind a few cell bars and dark spaces…
I believe Nikki says you aren’t allowed to bore people in the comments. What are you doing here?
Well Niles unfairly attacked in a very intolerant way a whole group of people with his comment. I don’t see you pointing that out.
Hi, I’m doing just fine without your bible, thanks though.
And embarrassing for everyone involved. This was a Kirk Cameron movie people. You are in a remake of a Kirk Cameron movie. I know much needs money and Chad needs a job, but don’t both need to be taken seriously more than they need this dreck?
Yeah, like the people commenting here are always right about the business. Unemployed people sure have a lot of opinions about those who are working.
And the race to the bargin bin starts ….. now!
Nicolas Cage? Really! I have no words…
You have no words? No wonder you can’t get a job writing.
If they think I’ll be seeing this, they can kiss my left behind.
LOL!!!
Didn’t Nic Cage already make this movie? I believe it was called KNOWING.
“Hate groups”? Nonsense. Perhaps you disagree with their worldview or do not share their values, that might even offend you, but that’s not “hate.”. As for the movie, I doubt it will be a “remake” of the Cameron film-it will be more like Fox’s Fantasic Four–it was not a remake of Roger Corman’s version… Both sucked though, so that’s not a good sign for this project…
Absolutely Horrifying!
I’ll see it only if Mel Gibson is directing.
Everyone involved in this movie know this….your agent and managers are selling you short. It’s cheesy and sad and they should know better. And you, the “artists” who choose to be involved in what is universally known to be classless should stop and realize you are being raped. This is your craft, your art and you are better than this. Shane on your. “Teams” for not talking you out of this.
“You are in a remake of a Kirk Cameron movie.”
I love this sentence. So pitiful.
It’s hilarious to read the ‘tolerant, loving, accepting’ left-wing when it comes to Christian movies.
Hypocrites? You bet.
You’re right savvydude, because one dumb comment on Deadline speaks for the entire left wing. We’re a monolith.
His comment calling right-wing Christians was idiotic. Your response was just as bad.
Sincerely,
A Hypocrite
I’m intolerant of shitty movies.
This project is the real end of the Mayan calendar. It’s way too early for April Fools Day.
Read the books when I was in high school, thought they were entertaining (if not a bit preachy). Saw the first version of this thing when it came out on VHS prior to its theatrical release and it wasn’t all that bad for a low budget, terribly acted, Christian-based flick compared to what else religious institutions have backed in the past.
I have a feeling a balls-out reboot could do good numbers from the church community, and if they could hit the right notes that were successful in making the books entertaining, it might bleed into some kind of mainstream acceptance. From what I remember, things don’t start getting radically religious until late in the series — the first half of the books tell more of a spy/mystery/mourning kind of story.
That being said, Nic Cage seems to be box office poison right now, and a few years ago American Dad did a 24 minute Left Behind Christmas episode that was more entertaining than the 16 books combined… might be a tough one to get right…
Isn’t there a CW pilot Chad can sign on to instead?
I’m a God fearing born-again Christian. Have you read the books? Awful. The series is like a group of public-domain stories that anyone or any pastor or any 8th grader; could write or would tell. The only difference is the guys that wrote this series got to print first. Guaranteed this movie will prove to lack one major component – creativity. Trust me it’ll be out in blue ray in a week; and it’ll for sure be offered as a pre-view on iTunes or pay-per-view. Sorry to have to say that, but it’s true. Here comes another movie that will once again, put Christian filmmaking in a a bad light.
The books were way better than the Cameron movies…I hope this time around is better and I think CMM will be great!
This remake will be ten times better than the “Kirk Cameron” ones because it will a cast that is TEN TIMES BETTER than Kirk Cameron
I will gladly go see this movie. I saw the first three “Kirk Cameron” ones. It is just a movie.
The ‘Left Behind’ franchise has a lot of potential. It will be great to see what they can do with it with a more substantial budget. Chad Michael Murray playing the role of journalist Cameron “Buck” Williams would be a good match.
Look like Hollywood is finally paying attention that Christian films are producing huge DVD longterm.
