BREAKING: The Los Angeles Film School has hired veteran studio exec and film producer Hal Lieberman to head its Entertainment Business Bachelor of Science Program. Launched last summer, the program builds on The Los Angeles Film School’s Associate degree programs in Film Production, Recording Arts, Game Production and Computer Animation.
“We are emphatic about having Hal join our team,” states Diana Derycz-Kessler, Los Angeles Film School President/CEO. “His knowledge, enthusiasm, and passion for the Entertainment Industry are the very qualities that embody the direction we would like our students to take. Under Hal’s guidance, we await great successes from our newest program.”
At Universal, Lieberman’s run as an exec included developing Apollo 13, Happy Gilmore, The Nutty Professor and Liar Liar. His subsequent producing credits include Terminator 3: Rise Of The Machines and U-571.
Lieberman said he wanted to put his 35 years in the business to work “helping students achieve their Bachelor of Science degree. As a film executive and movie producer, I’m hoping to combine the colorful side of entertainment business with the practical, and give students the belief that with the right mentoring, they can do it, too, and succeed,” Lieberman said.

I don’t think “emphatic” means what you think it means…
“ecstatic” – visited there awhile ago. The “school’s” kind of a joke, isn’t it?
Well…it is a “B.S.” program…
Great for Hal (super guy) and Great for the school. Big congrats to both!
LA Film School has amazing facilities and is in a position to make its mark on the film school landscape with someone like Hal running the show. I taught at LAFS for a year, and like most schools, it’s what you make of it as a student. With Hal in charge, the students will have access to knowledge and talent that most film students will never have. I’m optimistic.
Wish I would have had a mentor like that in school – the students are lucky to have him.
Go Hal!
Congrats to Hal Lieberman! I’m going to look into the school further now having a Bachelors program! I’m sure Mr. Lieberman can impart industry knowledge.
I attended back in 2009. Things have gone downhill since, and while that may not be saying much, I did learn a lot there. They really do throw down the gauntlet. You barely have time to breathe during the 12-month accelerated course that I took. But I have heard bad things since I left, such as Frank Serafine, Oscar-winning sound editor of The Hunt for Red October and the original Tron was fired due to student reviews. This was the first in a line of stupid decisions the school has made and now, yes it is a joke.
Serafine did not win an Oscar for Hunt For Red October. The editors who won were Cecelia Hall and George Waters. Because a film you worked on won, doesn’t mean you won.
BS is right. The school is a joke, the program is a joke, the degree is a joke, Diana is a joke, Hal is a joke, this article is a joke and whoever Amy P is (above) is a joke that clearly works for the school. It’s a shame prospective students don’t know ahead of time how much of a scam this place is. On the bright side, the building class action suits need members…
You don’t need to make things personal.
Come tell me to my face that Hal is a joke.
And, tell that to his resume.
How is yours looking?
The Los Angeles Film School got someone like Hal Lieberman to work for them! Wow! He’s a great guy!
I taught at LA Film School for a year. Great facility and real opportunity for someone of Hal’s talent and connections to put LAFS on the map and give these students most other film school students won’t have. Like most schools, LAFS is what you make of it. I’m optimistic.
Fantastic news!! It’s so nice to see a big time movie guy giving back! Go Hal!
Score! LA Film School.
Well why do you think they hired him.. Duh
About time they caught a big fish.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Congratulations to Hal! This is great news for both him and the next generation of students who will be able to learn from the breadth of his experience.
Congrats to one of the nicest studio heads ever and congrats to our local Hollywood training ground. Here’s wishing you both thrive from the new association
Congrats to Hal Lieberman! Listened to some of his interviews with University of Chicago. The students at LA Film School are lucky to have him and so is the school. I wish I had the opportunity to spend time with him.
