American Pie‘s Natasha Lyonne is set to star in a half-hour comedy that has been set up at Fox with a script commitment. Written by Mr. Sunshine creators/executive producers Alex Barnow and Marc Firek, the untitled project centers on Stella (Lyonne) who, fresh out of rehab and committed to starting a new life as a sober, responsible adult, is forced to move in with her conservative brother and young family. The comedy is
produced by 3 Arts, which reps Lyonne, and Sony Pictures TV, where Barnow and Firek are under an overall deal. Barnow and Firek executive produce alongside 3 Arts’ Dave Becky and Jonathan Berry. In addition to starring in the show, Lyonne is also attached as a producer.
This would mark the actress’ first regular series gig. She is recurring on Jenji Kohan’s upcoming Netflix dark comedy series Orange Is The New Black after guest starring in the series finale of Kohan’s long-running Showtime series Weeds. APA-repped Lyonne’s upcoming features include The Rambler and Imogene. Before creating Mr. Sunshine, UTA-repped Barnow and Firek worked on Sony TV’s CBS comedy Rules Of Engagement.

Lovin’ those professional head shots, fellas!
What’s Ben & Kate about? I thought it was siblings. Then again I haven’t watched it.
Would love if Michael Rappaport could write for this — he’d have some stories to tell.
I love Natasha and love this news.
So they’re going to cancel a show about an irresponsible sibling who moves into a responsible sibling’s house with a young family with another show about an irresponsible sibling who moves into a responsible sibling’s house with a young family? And the Fox execs are probably wondering why they’re in 4th place.
I agree to some extent, but shows can be very different in spite of similar premises. From the blurb, this sounds much darker and drier than Ben and Kate.
That said, the biggest problem with Ben and Kate is that Fox couldn’t convince anyone to sample the show, which doesn’t exactly bode well for a show with a similar premise.
What about Natasha Lyonne makes producers and studio execs think she can carry a series? Perhaps the same thing that made them think Mindy Kahling (sp?) could carry a series: magic! …and a whole lot of wishful thinking.
For some reason, I thought Natasha was dead…..perhaps I confused her with Brittany Murphy?
Wish her the best of luck, though this sounds like same s*%* different color for Fox…..
Cannot wait to see this comedy! Barnow & Firek are hilarious and well deserving of a new show on the air.
She was barely in American Pie ….she’ll always be “Slums of Beverly Hills”‘s Natasha Lyonne to me! Still one of my favorite movies…she was so good in that & “But I’m A Cheerleader”- glad to see her back ….hope this makes it on the air!
They can be writing partners, they can share a salary, yet they still can’t legally marry in california. So sad.
Real talent waxes and wanes, but never disappears completely, and Natasha lyonne is case in point.
She was great on New Girl last year.
…this project has been on the development grid for months. Why is this news exactly? It’s not a recent sale or anything.
From the people who brought you the mega -successful Mr.Sunshine comes-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-i’m sorry-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-no i’m not-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!!!!!
