EXCLUSIVE: I’ve learned that Fox is giving a 13-episode series order to Murder Police, an animated comedy from former Family Guy executive producer/co-showrunner David Goodman and Jason Ruiz. The show follows a dedicated but inept detective and his partner in a twisted city precinct as they try to solve serious crimes. Goodman and Ruiz created and wrote the project, originally picked up by the network as a presentation. Goodman serves as executive producer; Ruiz as co-executive producer. Murder Police is produced at Bento Box Animation for 20th Century Fox TV.
Murder Police marks Fox’s first animated series order in more than two years — since the October 2010 pickup of Jonah Hill’s Allen Gregory for 7 episodes (with Goodman as executive producer/showrunner), and Napoleon Dynamite for 6. Neither of the two were renewed for a second season. Fox has been looking to bring new blood to its aging Sunday animated comedy block. Of the network’s existing toon series, The Simpsons, Family Guy, American Dad and Bob’s Burgers have been renewed, while The Cleveland Show‘s future beyond this season is in doubt. Goodman is with UTA, Mosaic and Ziffren; Ruiz with UTA, Levity Entertainment and Ziffren.

Jason Ruiz is a rare talent…funny as hell. It’s also nice to see FOX deviating from the go-to family paradigm, I think it will help speak to the younger audience. This is gonna be good.
This is great news for Jason, bad news for me since I really want work with him. Wish him the best on this.
nice work Ruiz! one of the funniest guys in town – so happy this is happening. it’s about time!!!
Count me in! I am so sick of Seth MacFarlane wasting time on Fox’s lineup. Way to bring in some new blood!
I totally agree. Family guy is well past its sell by date, and I haven’t watched Cleveland since they moved him to 7:30. We need this.
Mr. G is one of the wisest guys I ever met.
Isn’t there a new adult swim style animated division of Fox as well doing animated shows?
Yes there is, and I think this show is perfect for it. Plus, if they air it at 12, they can go all out on the violence. That will definitely be a plus.
Who is this show supposed to appeal to exactly? Given that no-one under 40 watches police procedurals, why would they want to watch a comedic take on one?
What the hell are you talking about! I’ve been watching Bones since the pilot and I’m only 35. A comedy cartoon is the perfect way to bring a fresh audience to the genre.
Sounds awesome!! Glad Fox is trying something different. Howell and team always bring the goods!
Maybe it could be like “Axe Cop” in that Saturday animation block FOX wants to launch in 2013 http://www.deadline.com/2012/04/foxs-saturday-late-night-animated-block-greenlights-first-series/
Yes, they’re a perfect fit. FOX should leave Sunday for family shows and put violence and horror in the late-night Saturday slot where it can thrive.
david goodman is brilliant. this show will be awesome.
David Goodman is the absolute best. Can’t wait for this!
Yay D. Goodman. Funny guy. Nice guy.
