EXCLUSIVE: Two high-profile Fox projects with pilot production commitments have started the casting process in anticipation of official pilot orders. The decision to begin casting early gives the projects a window before the onslaught of pilot season begins next month.
I Suck At Girls is a single-camera comedy from Bill Lawrence and Warner Bros. TV based on Justin Halpern’s book, the follow-up to his bestseller S**t My Dad Says. The half-hour comedy tells the story of a boy becoming a man, and a man becoming a father, in a time before coming of age was something you could Google. Halpern and Patrick Schumacker wrote the script, with Lawrence supervising. Lawrence, Halpern and Schumacker executive produce with Jeff Ingold.
Legal drama Rake — starring and co-executive produced by Greg Kinnear — is based on the popular Australian series whose co-creator Peter Duncan is writing the U.S. adaptation under Peter Tolan’s supervision. Produced by Sony TV, Rake follows the chaotic world of criminal defense lawyer Cleaver Greene (Kinnear). Brilliant, iconoclastic and innately self-destructive, he has a mind-numbing lack of discretion and a total inability to pause before speaking his mind. From bigamists to cannibals and everything in between, the clients Cleaver loves most are those whose cases appear to be utterly hopeless without him realizing that he, himself, is perhaps the most desperate case of all. Tolan serves as showrunner and is executive producing with Duncan, Richard Roxburgh and Ian Collie. I Suck At Girls and Rake join NBC’s Alfonso Cuarón/J.J. Abrams drama and the CW’s Amazon, which have been doing preliminary castings.

HOUSE in a courtroom anyone?
I thought we’d gotten rid of Justin Halpern once and for all.
Exactly! What manner of sorcery has Halpern conjured to have not one, but two pilots in two attempts?! Join me, Kieran, and together, we will put an end to Halpern and his insolence! Meeting at Skull Mountain on Thursday morning. Be there! Vader is bringing donuts.
Justin and Pat are great writers. Looking forward to this. Kieran, shut your face and go get the coffee.
Priceless Bert
And this is because S**t My Dad Says was such an amazing TV success?!?
S**t my dad says was run into the ground by Kohan and Mutchnick not Justin — he’d never worked in tv before
You think he was running the show?
I am Australian, and I still have no idea why ‘Rake’ is getting the American remake treatment. Is Hollywood that starved of ideas that they’ll buy a lame retread of American television? Who saw that Richard Roxburgh series and said, ‘I need THAT right now’?
so people only get one shot a TV sitcom success or they get banished to obscurity?
“shit my dad says” suffered from bad execution, not a bad premise.
Compared to “Partners,” “Shit My Dad Says” was Shakespeare.
Kevin Biegel!
Big deal, anyone can suck at girls. I suck at picking successful sit-coms and that’s not something just anyone can suck at. I’m extremely terrible at it, my track record is lousy, it’s horrible it’s the worst which is why I’m a highly paid FOX TV executive. Nobody can pick shitty shows as badly as I can. I choose the absolute worst sit-coms of anyone.
