The monsters and machines movie doesn’t even come out until July 12, 2013, but a sequel to Pacific Rim is already on the drafting table. Director Guillermo del Toro has started work on a follow up script to the Warner Bros/Legendary Pictures movie with Travis Beacham, Deadline has confirmed. Beacham, who wrote the screenplay to Pacific Rim, has already been at work on a graphic novel prequel to the film expected out next year.

That just seems standard practice nowadays.
The sequel for SKY CAPTAIN AND THE WORLD OF TOMORROW has a better chance of getting greenlighted. PAC RIM 2 will be a waste of time for everyone involved because the first movie is going to tank.
Re SS’ comment: What will happen when all of the people and all of the projects in Hollywood that you are hoping will fail, don’t? Will tears stain one or both cheeks when you are forced to realize that criticizing will never be the same as pursuing?
What’s with all the hoping other people’s stuff will fail? Pathetic. Even worse – stating it with a certainty that you don’t have. This business is tough enough – why be so negative? Or maybe you’ve had it worse than most and are resentful?
This is the film that will make Charlie Hunnam a superstar, count on it.
Ya know even if the plot sucked, if the effects are as good as they look diehard scifi fans like me will see it, multiple times at that. What critics fail to understand when they berate most of the movies that come out of the scifi genre is that diehard fans don’t need a perfect plot, show us awesome monsters, great effects, and surprise us. We the diehards will always wait with great anticipation for movies like that. I’m 47 and I wish I could go to sleep tonight and wake up and be in July.
