Rocker Jack White was originally the frontrunner to compose the score for Disney’s The Lone Ranger, but scheduling conflicts arose after budget concerns temporarily pulled the plug on the Jerry Bruckheimer Films pic starring Armie Hammer and Johnny Depp and directed by Gore Verbinski. Production finally started in February, and the tentpole’s release date eventually was moved to July 3, 2013. White will still contribute music to the production, we’re told. Hans Zimmer‘s name first appeared in conjunction with the movie when his name appeared in the latest trailer that bowed this week. Zimmer has worked with this bunch before: He did the music for Disney, Bruckheimer, Depp and Verbinski’s Pirates Of The Caribbean franchise.

There goes my only interest in this movie.
Good.
Zimmer has a whole stable of composers that work with his company. Do they all work on other projects, or do they sometimes contribute bits of music to major scores that go under Zimmer’s name? I don’t know much about film scoring, especially at such a high level. So I’m genuinely curious as to how complex soundtracks for big-budget are made. There must be more collaboration than the credits would imply.
you are referring to the ‘zimmerclones.’
Thank God. Mr.White could not write a score even if his life depended on it. It takes tallent, skill and a lot of professional experience. Good to see that for once an intellligent decision was made instead of hiring “a rocker buddy”.
While I enjoy the work of Zimmer, the film really already lost a bit of spark without Jack White.
Sanity prevails. Insulting when people think that since a musician can simply write great tunes, they must be capable of composing a score. The irony is that to many, the former seems infinitely more complex and difficult. HOWEVER, I do believe that an interesting score would be having HZ actually scoring it and featuring musical cameos, flavours and ideas from the stylish, talented and wonderfully unique Jack White. I am sure this is not lost on such a formidable talent, collaborator and über-politician as HZ…should have been this from the start. Especially with Verbinski, Disney and the project’s scale.
William Tell or GTFO!!!!!
Ah yes the “zimmer clones “. Each one of them extremely talented in their own rights, with many of them scoring television and indie features. The various skill sets they bring into a “Zimmer/Remote Control ” film score may not always be directly acknowledged, but it is a genuine team effort.
I would not be surprised if there was a ” Zimmerized” William Tell overture , if not in the main title, probably in the credit roll. As much as I enjoy Mr. Depp and Mr. Zimmers work, I think I’ll give the Lone Ranger a pass. Happy Holidays to all!
