Syfy on Friday decided to pre-empt the penultimate episode of drama Haven‘s third season, which had been scheduled for that night, after the deadly shooting at Connecticut’s Sandy Hook Elementary School that claimed the lives of 26 people, including 20 first-graders. Now the episode has been rescheduled, along with the show’s Season 3 finale. Here is the network’s statement:
Last Friday’s 10PM episode of Haven contained scenes of fictitious violence in a high school setting and in light of the recent tragedy, we have decided to reschedule it along with the series’ season three finale, originally slated to air this Friday, December 21st at 10PM. The final two episodes of season three of Haven will now air back-to-back on Thursday, January 17th from 8-10 PM (ET/PT) to maintain the integrity of the series’ serialized nature.

So, does that mean in a couple of weeks it will be fine to air episodes that show extreme violence? Do they think a week will make a difference in the horror we feel?
That’s a load of BS, Evan. Are you honestly suggesting any programming with violent content should be permanently banned? SyFy’s wait time is more than enough, thanks. (And the episode is airing January 17, which means it has been pulled for five weeks, not “a week” as you suggest).
The episodes showed a high school reunion with ADULTS where violence would take place. FICTIONAL violence in a SCI-FI show many of us enjoy to watch. So sick of the conservative bs, made worse because these are the same people who are for unrestrained access to firearms. This is a great show and it had nothing to do with what happenned. Shame on syfy for disrespecting the fans of the show to please the conservatives.
Conservative BS? I have no idea what you are talking about. Siffy pulled the show because had they not the show would have been swept up in the same anti-gun hysteria that follows any tragedy. There was no pressure from ‘conservative groups’ or really any groups for that matter to pull the show. The network did it preemptively just to avoid any potential backlash. Same thing happened to an episode of Buffy following another school shooting.
I was a little upset when I found out the episode hadn’t aired (it was set to record), but can totally understand their reasons, although yes it is FICTIONAL it did have reference to what had happened earlier that day! I for one think it was a very RESPECTFUL choice to postpone the airings! So many people all across the world were affected by this awful tragedy, the healing process will be a long time coming. CUDO’s to everyone involved in their choices to hold back on some TV FICTIONAL airings that after a time for grieving for so many beautiful children and their beautiful mentors will actually be aired again at a more apropiate time!!!
Err pam, I am Canadian and I follow world news and believe me when I tell you that tragedies like this happen on a daily basis all over. Please spare us your self-righteousness and self-centeredness. People have different ways of grieving and processing these events. Your way need not be everybody’s. Have some respect.
You are so right Canadian!!! When my young cousin was murdered; not everyone in the family faced there grief in the same way. For the most part we understood this. When my paternal Grandmother passed away after a long and painful illness; I could not bare to go to the funeral and my Dad understood and he said everyone deal with their grief in their own way.
For all those thinking Syfy is being soooooo considerate perhaps noone told you that Syfy UK showed said episode today. Syfy UK will be showing s3e13 on 24 December. All that sympathy and understanding from Syfy and its corporate parentage is just posturing to look good in the media and milk it for all the indirect promotion they can.
In Canada the show is already on a one-week delay this season. Showcase has gone from showing both s3e12 and s3e13 on 21 December to only showing s3e13 and the christmas episode to now showing the christmas episode and NCIS s8e10. For some reason the owner of Showcase feels this need to play second-string to Syfy even though both companies share in producing the show.
When the rural town of Slave Lake in Alberta was burnt down by wild fires did NBC think anything of showing the episode of LOLA in which a wild fire threatens a neighbourhood in Malibu? Nope. The tragedy was on the wrong side of the border for NBC and its corporate structure to care.
Sorry to pick you up on this but speaking as a UK resident Syfy UK did not air this episode, but showed the Season 2 Christmas episode in it’s place.
As terrible as the events were I must admit I don’t agree with the pulling of the episode here in UK, although I understand it being pulled in the US.
Now just trying to find out when it will be aired here.
I agree with you Andrew the pulling of the episode should not have applied to Canada or the UK. I am sure they will air the episodes in Canada and the UK but only after they air them in the US. They are holding them because of the ratings in the US. What they want to prevent is that all these self-righteous viewers in the US who are fawning over this decision and pointing fingers at those who do not agree with it will download the episodes illegally if someone from abroad posts them online.
Yes it didn’t air here in the UK and I can’ t find any information on when the last 2 episodes are airing here. I twittered # havenhappenings who are always on the ball but no news there either. I can put up with the delay if only they could give a date to look forward to x
NO DEATHS IN SLAVE LAKE JUST PROPERTY DAMAGE YOU HEARTLESS B**CH.
I applaud SyFy for their action. It was the right thing to do. It’s just a t.v. show and waiting a few more weeks to see it isn’t the end of the world.
Your actions were totally uncalled for!! Your just proving it to the shooter that he could get national and world attion! By moving your air dates all your doing is showing the world that anyone one person can piss off everyone whom watches your network but yet protecting your asses! Just because you are airing a show that has presents to something that has already happened it was NOT your at falt!! So there for your saying if something like a if a man were to think they were bulletproof like one of your actors on the show were to put a bullet in his own head than what??
