EXCLUSIVE: HBO has picked up to pilot Silicon Valley, a single-camera dark comedy from King Of The Hill co-creator/executive producer Mike Judge and fellow King Of The Hill executive producers John Altschuler and Dave Krinsky. The three wrote the live-action project, which is executive produced by Scott Rudin as part of the overall deal he had at the pay cable network. Silicon Valley is set in the high tech gold rush of modern Silicon Valley, where the people most qualified to succeed are the least capable of handling success. Judge will direct the pilot, which is slated to film in the spring. Judge, Altschuler and Krinsky executive produce with Rudin and 3 Arts’ Michael Rotenberg and Tom Lassally. Following the 2010 end of Fox’s King Of The Hill after 13 seasons, Judge, Altschuler and Krinsky, repped by WME and 3 Arts, worked together on MTV’s revival of Judge’s 1990s animated staple Beavis and Butt-Head. While he has been focused primarily on animation, Judge has ventured into live-action comedy before, including writing and directing the cult 1999 feature Office Space, a live-action adaptation of his animated short.
HBO has ramped up comedy development this year with several green lights, pilots Hello Ladies, which has already been picked up to series, Getting On and Silicon Valley as well as Christopher Guest’s Family Tree, which received a straight to series order.

I’m in. Sounds hilarious. Mike Judge is hilarious.
Yeah, but John and Dave are not. The Goode Family was terrible.
I think Goode Family was a classic. Still have some of the episodes in my gym bag.
Bring back king of the hill!!!!!!!
RIGHT ON !! Bring “King Of The Hill” back PLEASE !!! It was One of the most wholesome family shows viewing that existed in today’s times . PLEASE bring it back Mike , PLEASE . I have been watching television for 57 years and this show ranks in comparability to “The Andy Griffith Show”in my professional opinion . The reruns are TERRIFIC and the Characters are Immortal . Please bring back this Wonderful show that NOBODY could Deny !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sincerely, Don Boske Jr
No way this isn’t going to be hilarious. HBO comedy made a smart move with this pilot order.
IDIOCRACY was eerily prescient.
My god, yes.
A writer friend and I were chatting about the fact that HBO seems more interested in big names (Aaron Sorkin) than in discovering new ones (the next David Chase). Even Lena Dunham comes with the imprimatur of Judd Apatow. Mike Judge would fit the pattern.
But who cares? I’ve liked everything he’s ever done and would leap at the chance to have him at my channel.. the one that airs only in my brain while I slave away at real channels that suck.
Mike Judge, John Altshuler, Dave Krinsky, amazing guys, terrific professionals. HBO did it again! I look forward to watch this show!
“Even Lena Dunham comes with the imprimatur of Judd Apatow”
As they say in Chicago, “We don’t want nobody that nobody sent”.
As long as Ashton Kutcher isn’t involved, I’m happy.
Mike, thanks for giving us Beavis and Butthead. Fun while it lasted.
GREAT news I’m sure Mike Judge will know the 1st lesson of that dud “Start-ups:Silicon Valley”, Lack of environmental authenticity. There is no foggy, hilly, Golden gate backdrops in the Valley. Silicon Valley Techies are more likely to be hangin’ out at ‘Fry’s Electronics in Sunnyvale than a hip San Francisco Eatery.
.
Yes a small wave of new start-ups have located in SF but the vast majority of SV locals still relate more to the suburbia of Metro San Jose’s, LA-like balmy weather, vast Flatlands of car loving peeps, criss-crossing freeways & expressways connecting the thousands of strip malls, Chain grills, Giant megamalls and dozens of quaint smalltown main streets (faux ones included, Santana Row) These are easier to mock anyways
What is the problem with a network picking up new seasons of “king of the Hill”? a simple google search will return thousands of bereaved followers BEGGING for the return of the show. I LOVED “koth”, everyone I know loved it. Why is it that we get raunchy, sickening shows like family guy & american dad (the worst depiction of a family ever on both counts) shoved down our throats while being stripped of values based shows we love? King of the hill was the one show that my whole family could watch. But who cares about that.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PUUULEEZE bring KOTH back
Please bring back King of the Hill, make a feature film of it or something. It was a horrible mistake to take it off the air. King of the hill was much better than the Simpsons and that continues to run. I think if you made a feature film you would find out that the interest is still there for the show. Its characters had real depth. My whole family still watches the reruns. I realize Mike Judge will probably never see this post but if enough of us say something about this maybe we can get it accomplished. Support the effort to bring back King of the Hill!!
