Expect to see the real story of the election of 2012 on HBO around the time of the election of 2016. The network confirmed today that they have optioned the rights to Double Down: Game Change 2012 from journalists Mark Halperin and John Heilemann. The as yet-unwritten book is expected out for the fall of 2013 according to publisher Penguin Press, who announced the book and the HBO option Tuesday. Halperin and Heilemann’s behind-the-scenes 2010 book on the 2008 Presidential election Game Change: Obama And The Clintons, McCain And Palin, And The Race Of A Lifetime was a number one bestseller and the basis for a 2012 HBO movie. Directed by Jay Roach and starring Julianne Moore as Alaska Governor and GOP VP candidate Sarah Palin and Ed Harris as Sen. John McCain, Game Change debuted on HBO on March 10 of this year. Game Change won four Emmys this year including best miniseries or TV movie, a best directing win for Roach and an outstanding actress in a miniseries or TV movie for Moore. Halperin and Heilemann are repped by Andrew Wylie at The Wylie Agency.

Are we actually going to follow the OBAMA part of the storyline this time or this movie going to be all about the Romney campaign and the Republican primaries. I think the latter.
I was still hoping for a sequel that would adapt the half of the first book that the first movie didn’t touch.
We still haven’t seen the full story of the 2008 campaign. Let’s see how Obama and his Chicago operatives out-maneuvered the Clinton Machine and how Hillary hung on until the very end thinking she could still be the nominee. That’s much more interesting than the recent campaign it was boring and generic. Nobody cares about Romney and Gingrich and Santorum. But they won’t ever film the other half of 2008 they don’t want to make Hillary look bad or make Obama’s team look ruthless.
I’m already embarrassed for the actor who has to recreate Paul Ryan’s workout photo shoot.
Hmm…the “real story” from HBO…about politics? Very trustworthy. You might as well let MSNBC produce the project. With Bill Maher as Historical Consultant. Trusting HBO with history is like trusting Jerry Sandusky with the junior high showerroom.
except Hillary actually comes pretty good in the book. At least, I put the book down with a grudging respect for her. Ain’t no one like her.
Let me guess they will put the focus on Rick S and Michelle Bachman. They ignored the best part of the first book of Clinton going against Obama sure they will ignore the best story this time.
