Australian distributor Hopscotch has posted a trailer for the upcoming surf drama Drift that stars Sam Worthington, Myles Pollard, and Xavier Samuel. Wrekin Hill acquired North American rights to the movie in September with a view to an early 2013 release. Inspired by the true story of the founding of Aussie surf lines like Quiksilver and Billabong, Drift centers on two brothers who launch a backyard surf gear business but get caught up with a local drug dealer, threatening their family and their future. Morgan O’Neill and Ben Nott directed O’Neill’s screenplay.

A surf film that doesn’t look lame!!!!
That said, were they towing-in and doing front-side airs in 1970′s? I guess that can be forgiven if the drama feels real.
This looks great – we’re long over due for a good surf movie!
Correct me if I am wrong… and I live in SoCal so I ‘get’ the surf lifestyle. But surfing themed flics, unless in SoCal or HI. No body cares about. Seems to me that even the ‘core’ surfers dont go to these movies ‘dude’
Skip – yes/no. This actually looks like it goes beyond just a surf movie. Ya, there’s surfing/big waves, all the stuff people salivate over. But yowza, that trailer had more story in it than 90% of the flicks I’ve seen this year.
MYLES POLLARD IN AMERICA! Dreams really do come true.
