This trailer for Disney‘s The Lone Ranger clocks in a minute longer than the first one that was released in October. There’s more backstory and more interaction here between Johnny Depp’s Tonto and Armie Hammer’s masked man. Silver also gets extra screen time. Directed by Gore Verbinski and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, the movie began production in February after months of budget drama. The studio had pulled the plug altogether in August last year before reviving it after Bruckheimer and Verbinski were able to get the budget down into the $215M range. Release is set for July 3, 2013.

Looks good. Like Pirates of the Prairie.
Im in. Looks big. And… theres a horse in a tree!
I’d never think i live to see the day where there would be a western worse than Will Smith’s Wild Wild West. This just might top that.
yeah looks like Johnny is jumping the shark here
Ironically, the claim that ANYTHING has “jumped the shark” has, in and of itself, jumped the shark.
Please stop.
The backstory to Depps indian is that he was taught english by a scottish/welsh pirate.
Not bad. Funny if you listen to Depp , he almost sounds like Jay Silverheals
Exactly what I was thinking. That’s dead-on Silverheels all the way.
Future bomb of the year. Why? why on earth did they make that movie at all? I tried to like it. I really did. Because I like Armie Hammer. I clicked on play button and hoped that they will show me something interesting. They did not. There was nothing memorable in trailer. Not for a second I cared about characters and their problems. And this is second trailer. It was their last chance to make viewers care about the movie.
And Johny was basically playing Captain Jack again. He kind of stuck in that role is he? Movie after movie he plays different variations of same character. It’s like in one second he lost all his talent. He works for big paycheck and doesn’t even try to act. That is actually very unprofessional.
And once again – where all those crazy money went? I saw some cheap Western set like they have in every Western movie. And a lot of CGI with flying trains and bullets. 3:10 to Youma had very believable Western sets. And it was cheap and looked good. On what they spent all that 200 millions budget?
This will be “Flop of 2013″. They had to see how Jonhny Depp is not Golden Chicken every time. Tourist underperformed, The Rum Diary bombed, Dark Shadows underperformed. People won’t go to ANY Depp movie to get it 300 millions at domestic box-office.
You TRIED to like it?
For the 2 minutes of the trailer?
That was a ton of work, I’m sure.
I agree..where the hell did 215 million go in a western.absurd amount…can’t judge a movie by a trailer, however…but I abhore the lone ranger outfit they crafted for him. if it ain’t the blue outfit..it’s not the Lone Ranger of anyone’s childhood…oh Clayton Moore where are you when you’re needed?
Well, I’m glad you ‘tried’ to like the film through the 2 minute trailer… Frankly, Johnny Depp can play anything, he chooses the roles he likes; what’s wrong with that??? If you want to bitch about actors playing the same ‘roles’ over and over, go bitch about Jim Carrey!!! I can’t stand his ‘humor’ and he seems to LOVE playing it in the roles HE chooses; same thing over and over. For me personally, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”. Mr. Depp DOES play other roles, –differently; you just apparently don’t choose to watch other types of (Depp) movies.
Speechless.
Tonto looks cool. This trailer makes me want to see the movie for sure. Looks like Pirates meets Sergio Leone. Now bring on the popcorn and Hans Zimmer.
Wrong – it looks NOTHING like Sergio Leone.
There are a lot of haters out there, but I have faith Bruckheimer, Depp and Verbinski will deliver. Will Disney? Their marketing team can’t seem to open a movie unless it has Iron Man in it.
The trailer underwhelms, but agree with Miguel. I think this is a really bad sign of Disney’s marketing prowess, not a statement on the quality of the film.
I am… underwhelmed. Looks like the legacy of the old Lone Ranger TV series is safe and sound.
So THAT is the sound of flushing $215 million down the drain. I always wondered…
This is uhm…SOS different era.
This looks really good, and I’m not a JDepp follower….I think his “masquerading” acting parts are way too much over the top, but I love westerns and I would see this.
Please, not another overblown, over wrote take on a simple childhood tale! Pass.
Doesn’t look too shabby. Much more interested than I was after the first trailer.
Oh no.
IDIOTWOOD has tried to redo the lone ranger a number of times it has been a disaster. their has been only one long ranger and that was CLAYTON MOORE you can’t invent a replacement for him.
Everyone involved knows this is a bomb. EVERYONE.
Could be horrible, could be okay. But opening against Despicable Me 2? It will get slaughtered.
Is anyone else bothered by the fact that in this day and age we have a white actor playing a Native American? And please don’t roll out the old line that Johnny Depp is part Native American – that misinformation is based on a throwaway comment he once made. The actual quote is “I guess I have some Native American somewhere down the line. My great-grandmother was quite a bit of Native American, she grew up Cherokee or maybe Creek Indian. Makes sense in terms of coming from Kentucky, which is rife with Cherokee and Creek.”
“I guess”, “quite a bit”, “rife” – words that suggest pride in his supposed heritage. Even if his great-grandmother was half Native American, that would make Depp one sixteenth Native American – which is probably less than Donald Trump. Judging from his performance in the trailer, Depp is continuing the great tradition of red face stereotype acting.
No. Nobody cares. Enough with the whining. Carry on.
Can you name me a single Native American that would’ve gotten a production of this size greenlit?
Not only Johnny Depp part Cherokee Indian, but many Native Americans are racially ambiguous and have white ancestry. Many Native Americans have European-sounding names. Particularly the ones on reservations in Oklahoma.
So quit your whining.
This is so much worse than the original trailer. Aren’t the woos sound effects and the fast cutting dated already?
Looks amazing!! Can’t wait to see it!!
This is going to be huge… ugh
Another movie where Depp plays Jack Sparrow…
Problem with Johnny is that he is completly unfunny. It was fine in first Pirats. Somehow script allowed it and Johnny was funny. But in sequels, in those movies like Dark Shadows, Tourist, Alice or here he says thing that should be funny. I know they are supposed to be funny, that was in script and the way he says them. But when he delivers them – it’s not funny. I don’t want to smile.
Here in trailer again Depp tries to make a joke about horse but sounds kind of pathetic.
I am not sure about this. Despite the Pirates of the Caribbean branding and the attempts to sell this as pirates of the west, it may end up more john carter of the west (financially)
Kids are gonna be terrified of Tonto…
