Here is an exclusive first look at A&E‘s upcoming series Bates Motel, which serves as a prequel to Alfred Hitchcock’s horror classic Psycho. This first trailer for the series, which is rolling out in movie theaters nationwide, introduces Vera Farmiga as Norma Bates and young British actor Freddie Highmore as her son, serial killer-to-be Norman Bates. It provides first glimpses at their complex and twisted relationship as they move into the infamous Bates Motel. The trailer includes commentary from the show’s cast and producers, including former Lost co-showrunner Carlton Cuse and Kerry Ehrin (Parenthood, Friday Night Lights), who co-wrote and executive produce the 10-episode series.

Could be great – fingers crossed.
Looks very, very promising. Nice trailer.
Looks very good. Vera, Nestor. Freddy looks sweet and creepy. Must see. It will give good ratings to A&E like Longmire did.
Looks really great
God this looks chilling. Combining LOST and FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS…could be great or could be a dud.
Wow…. and this is why I don’t watch TV!
I’m in like Flynn for this… looks great.
I’m open-minded, but wary. Also, I’m not sure that I like the updating (‘reimagining” makes my skin crawl). As long as they keep it from getting muddled, like “Lost.”
“we’re not remaking Psycho” (we’re not, we’re not, we’re NOT!)
“challenge everything that you think you know” (Really? Everything?)
“incredible re-imagining” (Like the Poseidon Adventure TV and theatrical re-imaginations?)
“contemporary world” (no budget to do an actual pre-quel)
“very dark and malevolent” (Twin Peaks?)
Yawn….
Looks pretty good, will be watching for sure.
Good to see the old homeplace come back to life.
The fact that this series was not set in the 1940′s is what will kill this show. Too bad.
The changes occurring in the original’s time period – 1960, when individually-owend, roadside motels were made irrelevant and anachronistic in the face of freeway and highway construction – is critical to the abandoned feel of the Bates motel and Norman’s cloistered life.
Locating it in the proper time period would have been incredible, and probably too expensive.
The obvious injections and surgeries on the actresses would also probably be an issue for a period piece.
Does anybody want to watch a poorly-considered modern day “evolution of psycho” after the events on Friday? Too much “Dexter”, not enough Hitchcock.
what a waste of Vera Farmiga’s talents
I just hope the estate of the late Robert Bloch is getting his proper royalties. (Which are easy to “forget” when the author has been dead for eighteen years.)
Looks TEN TIMES better than that garbage FX is churning out weekly with asylum.. Shame because season one was so good. Vera is flawless, as is Freddie. From the trailer I’m certain this wont be a dud now. Cannot wait!
Vera farmiga is one of the most beautiful women in the world.. Something about the blue eyes and smile. Watch it for her alone.
Awesome!
This makes me want to watch Psycho IV.
