EXCLUSIVE: Universal Television has secured another key member of departing 30 Rock. Series executive producer Jack Burditt has signed a two-year overall deal with the studio behind the Emmy-winning NBC comedy, which ends its seven-season run January 31. Burditt joins 30 Rock creator/star/executive producer Tina Fey and star/producer Alec Baldwin, who also recently signed deals with Universal TV to remain at the studio following 30 Rock‘s end. “We are thrilled to continue our relationship at the studio with Jack after his invaluable contribution to 30 Rock,” Uni TV’s EVP Bela Bajaria said. “He’s a great showrunner and is a welcome addition to our roster.”
Comedy veteran Burditt has been on 30 Rock since after the pilot, originally as a co-executive producer. He took a break after Season 5 in May 2011 when Last Man Standing, the ABC comedy pilot starring Tim Allen — which Burditt created based on his life and executive produced — was picked up to series. Burditt worked on Last Man Standing for a few of months until departing in November 2011. He subsequently returned to 30 Rock as an executive producer. In addition to sharing in 30 Rock‘s three best comedy series Emmys, Burditt also earned two writing Emmy nominations for his work on the show.

I’m kind of skeptical about this one: is there really a market out there for smart and hilarious?
Yeah, he’s a good showrunner until he quits the show he creates.
There are a number of insults that I’ve had to delete in order to be accepted on this “comments” board. All I could come up with is that you are a clueless, insensitive, uncaring, ignorant jerk who clearly doesn’t work in an industry that undersands that this man suffered a devastating loss and needed to leave a show he created in order to heal. Lay off the guy… he’s talented, smart, and very deserving of whatever success comes his way.
Now we just need to raise the intelligence of most of America so they appreciate good comedy.
Jack is the best!
Burditt is one of the finest, funniest and smartest human beings I’ve had the good fortune to work alongside. He deserves the best. I’m extremely happy for him. Doug, I agree with blast: you’re a douche who knows nothing.
Way to go, Jack!
