EXCLUSIVE: Milo Ventimiglia is set to produce and star in the indie film adaptation of Marc Spitz‘s autobiographical novel How Soon Is Never? As its title suggests, the story has a connection to seminal 1980s band The Smiths. Spitz’s book is about a rock journalist who, in trying to get his own life back on track, attempts to reunite the band. In real life, The Smiths broke up in 1987 and individual members have sworn they would never reunite. Haven Entertainment and Ventimiglia’s DiVide Pictures have partnered to acquire rights to the novel. The film, scheduled to start production in 2013, will be produced by Ventimiglia and Russ Cundiff along with Haven Entertainment partners Matthew Perniciaro and Kevin Mann. Kirsten Ames will serve as executive producer. The producers tell Deadline they are currently pursuing rights to the band’s music for the film. Ventimiglia starred on NBC’s Heroes, next appears in the upcoming Grace Of Monaco alongside Nicole Kidman, and stars in Crackle’s original thriller web series Chosen, which premieres January 17. He is repped by CAA and Management 360.

Love it! Great book, great producers. And no, I don’t know these guys, I just loved More than a Game and A Band called Death.
This sounds great and Milo is surely being molded into a movie star. Can’t wait to watch it.
Great premise. I just ordered the book because of this story. And no, I don’t know these guys.
I know those guys, and I like those guys. Sounds like an awesome project.
Congrats Milo and Russ!
I know these guys and madly respect them both creatively and professionally.
I had read wonderful things about this book and its story yet never was aware that Haven was going after it… but I’m glad they did as I’m confident they’re going to make something worth watching.
Come on Johnny Marr.. do the score on this!!
Milo Ventimiglia? A producer? LOL!
Okay, HEROS, and a Web Series, but now he is going to star in a movie he has to produce to get a role, but is missing that little things called the music. Why is this news, are they funded, is there a director, I mean if everyone who pretended they were making a movie got to be on Deadline then, oh wait, then deadline would be what Deadline is. And also, I enjoyed the along side Nicole Kidman, so were the gaffers and the food service people, along side her.
bitter much?
Book bought. Happy for you. Congratulations.
