Just over a month after it debuted, MTV announced today that Catfish: The TV Show will be coming back for a second season in 2013. Based on the 2010 documentary Catfish, the show debuted on November 12. Last month Viacom CEO Philippe Dauman singled out the 11 PM premiere of Catfish: The TV Show as having had ”the highest-rated launch in MTV history.” With Nev Schulman, whose own online love drama was the basis of the 2010 doc, and filmmaker Max Joseph as hosts, Catfish: The TV Show “aims to tackle “the mystery and complexities of dating in a digital world,” according to MTV. New episodes of the show will start airing on January 7, 2013.

Too bad it’s all big sham including the actual legit nature of this doc and show. MTV brass should have to answer about all the shows that passed on making that would’ve been huge hits, but the wrong people work there and constantly leave money on the table.
Keep it up MTV!
Nothing like being completely irrelevant.
This is a good show in terms of entertainment and social relevance, but at the same time it is so obviously not necessarily staged, but at least scripted, that it can be distracting.
@sham
Of course, Catfish is a success unlike its previous scripted fair like Inbeteeenets and Underemployed. So you’re made they renewed a show getting good ratings and passed on likely duds? Sounds like someone had their spec sheet ignored!
I remember the days when MTV used to be cool.
I guess that makes me old.
Sadly it wasn’t all that long ago.
Strange comments. I watch a lot of reality TV and find this to be one of the least staged shows around. The host always seems pretty surprised by what’s happening and the crew (they show them a bunch) seems to be shocked too. I don’t know if it’s all real, but it seems more real than a lot of the stuff on MTV and certainly things like Duck Dynasty and Breaking Amish. Good show and happy there will be more.
If it’s dubbed reality TV, it’s fake. Across the board…
Love this show and I think Nev is the perfect host/companion on the journey with these people. It has suspense without the typical reality “drama” the reveal is there, has all the elements. I also think MTV is being very in tune with young people, this is how they date, communicate, function, live. To NOT have a show about relationships in the digital age would be a shame. Kudos MTV. I love this show!
I try to get into the show, but end up changing the channel and forgetting to return. Luckily, when i do remember it’s time for the meet and greet. Just don’t see why it needs to be an hour of us watching someone film the guy who is filming the host. There should also be more fights and lies. Hey, The Inbetweeners was a good show (for mTV,that is).
thought the show is a breath of fresh air and
shows the surprises in internet dating looking
for that one special person. thank you mtv
