That didn’t take long — two months after Oprah Winfrey‘s OWN announced a multi-year exclusive deal with Tyler Perry for scripted shows, the network has greenlighted two series written, directed and produced by Perry from his production company Tyler Perry Studios. Perry’s agreement with OWN called for him to write, direct and exec produce two series for a mid-2013 launch. Now the shows have been identified, drama The Haves And The Have Nots and comedy Love Thy Neighbor, the network confirmed. This marks the first drama series for the prolific Perry, who stayed strictly on the sitcom side with his TBS series, all done with Lionsgate’s Debmar-Mercury: House Of Payne, Meet The Browns and For Better Or Worse. The Tyler Perry shows mark OWN’s first scripted offerings.

The Haves And The Have Nots is about the dynamics of the affluent Cryer family and the impoverished family of their housekeeper Hanna, and the obstacles and secrets that exist within both families. Love Thy Neighbor is set at Love’s Diner, where every day the menu serves up good food, great laughs, valuable life lessons, and a whole lot of love for its zany neighbors.

OWN is sooooo desperate now they have resorted to hiring a walking joke in order to salvage a failing network. As if audiences are going to suddenly flock in droves to watch Tyler Perry drivel.
Just shut it down already and do everyone a favor Oprah. Face it, you vanity project failed.
How strange that Perry and Oprah want to keep all the money and power for themselves, instead of tapping new & struggling African-American voices.

It’s not only painfully hilarious that Oprah names the network after herself but that it literally is her network title “OWN” so it’s almost painful that she schedules for her ‘own’ viewing pleasure because Perry is a schmaltzy low budget hack who lacks finesse and artistry. Credit to them both for being booming successes who can write their own ticket, I just wish their ticket was one the rest of us were also interested in. The shows are paint by numbers predictable crap where other cable networks are pushing the envelope OWN saddles up next to The Hallmark Channel. Ugh.
To people who think that Oprah is just ‘tapping’ the African American community that you are wrong. And if you think her network is currently failing then you are also wrong.
Oprah’s network has been up double to triple digits this year (They have three shows that average at least 650k overall) and most of the shows that get the better ratings on own are the ‘African American’ ones: Welcome to Sweetie Pie’s (800k), Iyanla, Fix My Life (750k) and her interviews with African Americans (Usher, Rihanna) have gotten more African American viewers than BET.
This saturday actuall, OWN is using it’s #1 show (Sweetie Pie’s) to launch and build a African American Saturday (their best night) line-up which includes the launch of Six Little McGhees.
With ‘Life With La Toya’ coming to OWN next year too; OWN doesn’t already have to worry about the AA community, because their already on OWN. I’m defiantly sure that Tyler Perry’s show will get atleast 2 million viewers and it will help launch OWN as a VERY competitable cable channel.

Nope, won’t watch it. Tyler Perry just sucks.
The only thing I ever watched on OWN was Ryan and Tatum O’Neal. Only thing I ever will watch on Own. I tuned into her last show on network TV and all I thought as she paraded around the stage was “What a God complex”. Just my POV.
Oprah and OWN should have invested in the soaps that helped launch her career to the level it did. She turned her back on the genre and the fans and for that, I will NEVER watch anything on OWN or that Oprah has anything to do with.
So many negative comments about Oprah, and when someone points out that OWN is not “in trouble”, they are shot down as being “Oprah’s publicist”. There have been numerous stories in the media, some of this site, about the ratings growth at OWN. If you don’t like Oprah, that is fine and your prerogative. However, ignoring the facts to advance your own agenda is a FAIL. Ask Mitt Romney.

now for oprah, isnt OWN supposed to be uplifting, empowering, inspirational? has Oprah seen TP’s tv shows or movies? They are stereotypical and very shameful. I think in this manner O is looking at $ and not content. A shame.
Damn Haters! Why don’t you losers with all the negative comments go accomplish something and gain some credibility before you commence with dissing those who have. I’m not a big Oprah or Tyler fan but I dislike sideline critics more. Perhaps one day you will be good enough at something that you could employ as many people or make someone’s life better financial as these two have.
I tell you, we really have some stupid people who read and reply to these post and some haters too here you take a woman and not that color matters but she happens to be black, coming from nothing and make herself one of the biggest names in the world and then turn around and give so much back to the world and you people hate her you got to be stupid or just right out jealous and envious, wish the woman or person well for God sake, like the older people use to say, if you an’t got something nice to say then its best you say nothing. Oprah and Tyler must be doing something right, they are getting more attention than Republicans. I am a writer not looking for a hand out or someone to make things happen for me, but looking for direction. From where I sit, Tyler and Oprah can direct me in any direction.
