On its second-to-last show of Season 2, The X Factor (2.7/8) came down to its last three finalists Wednesday night on Fox. The singing series was up a slight 4% over last week’s show and saw a 6% rise in total viewers to 8.3 million. However, in a season that has been consistently tracking below last year, last night’s episode was down 18% among adults 18-49 from the December 21, 2011 performance final. With that said, Fox won the night in total viewers and in the 18-49 demo.

The Voice may be over for the season, but NBC is still in the competition business. Last night saw the network air the Miss Universe pageant (1.8/5). Rhode Island native Olivia Culpo brought the crown back to America for the first time in more than a decade in the NBC-Donald Trump co-owned competition, which saw a 13% rise in 18-49 over last year’s September 12 broadcast. With 6.1 million viewers, Miss Universe was the most-watched broadcast of the show since 2008. Chicago Fire (1.9/5) followed at 10 PM and was up 36% over last week. The result matched its second-highest rating in its first season — bested only by a November 7 airing after a Wednesday broadcast of The Voice.
ABC had repeats of The Middle (1.4/4), Neighbors (1.1/3) and Modern Family (1.8/5) on Wednesday. The network’s only original broadcast of the night was The Year With Katie Couric (1.6/5). In its second year, the collaboration between People magazine and 20/20 was up 7% over its December 15, 2011 airing. CBS started the night with A Home For The Holidays With Rascal Flatts (0.9/3) special, up 13% from last year’s December 21st airing. The network also aired repeats of Criminal Minds (1.4/4) and CSI (1.1/3).

X-Factor should be cancelled. 2 seasons is enough for a favor for Cowell, right?
I’ve (tried) to watch both seasons, but the show gets less interesting week by week. Interesting contestants (i’m talking about Vino) are eliminated early on because of dimwitted judges (i’m talking about you Britney) and the mentorships are disastrous.
Simon has no taste. Demi is too young to teach. Britney is brain dead. LA Reid just wants(ed) out. When the contestants are on their own in the beginning the show was compelling. Then the “mentors” and it goes lame – both seasons this happened.
What SHOULD happen is the contestants should pick their own mentors, or go it alone if they choose.
Totally agree with you…..
And also throw in the fact the hosts need to be replaced, especially that Kardashian hag, who is just hurting this show overall as well. Lopez really adds nothing so why not go with a clean slate from the judges on down to the hosts. Can’t see this show lasting more than one more season. Cowell hyped this thing way too much and it’s slowly dying like Idol is as well.
I watched almost all of season 1 and finally watch a bit #2 last night and I was aghast. The only professional on the stage with any talent was Mario Lopez, who if Simon really is as smart as he says he is, would fire everyone including himself and keep Lopez, who has shown he can build a successful show on his own as he did with MTV’s ABDC.
This is the Titanic of Singing shows, not hitting one but three icebergs, one for each of the judges, the singers, and a big one for Kloe K. Absolutely dreadful.
Agree. Demi completely mishandled her contestants, especially Cici Frey. She’s just 20 years old.what the hell does she know? And Britney is a total drip, no personality, did nothing to add to the show. The Voice had ridiculously good talent this year. ..used to like Simon, but getting sick and tired of his act and constant smug expression.
I love the X-Factor
We thought Britney did a very good job as judge and mentor. My family enjoyed watching her along with the contestants. She looks happy, looks good. I know others will disagree isn’t there always those that disagree? Demi, the show gave us a chance to get to know her a bit, but she really is too young to judge and mentor. I agree that she did not do anybody from her group any good. From strange costumes, then odd haircuts, bad coloring jobs… I won’t go on…. she is cute.
Simon.. goes without saying… Mr. Grinch… so appropriate….
