Ric Roman Waugh (Felon, Snitch) has signed on to direct and rewrite Relativity Media’s sci-fi thriller that is currently titled Tipping Point, based on Todd Stein’s original screenplay. Tipping Point is a sci-fi thriller with a dark view of an overpopulated future in which the penalty for having children without a license is death. Producing are Temple Hill Entertainment’s Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey, Relativity’s Ryan Kavanaugh, and Industry Entertainment’s Andrew Deane.

All this does is perpetuate the fallacy that the world is already over-populated. It’s not it’s just too densely populated in and around the major cities. There is so much open space on this planet that could be developed. Any time you fly cross-country you can see how much open space there is.
The earth could handle 60 billion people 10 times the current population but only if alternate energy sources were developed which will eventually happen. We’d also have to turn ocean water into fresh water with a better desalinzation process.
So this movie which is a ripoff of the 1970 “ZPG – Zero Population Growth” is nothing but nonsense. There will soon be 10 then 12 billion people and the suburbs will continue to spread outward. The major urban centers will have to start giving people monetary rewards for moving away from the cities to where the open lands are.
In a world where half the population is starving already and without drinkable water i doubt population density really matters. Desalination is only useful for the coastal population meaning the coastal population would explode negating your move to open space theory. Just call the premise cliche and predictable rather then trying to theorize it’s improbability.
Sounds strangely familiar to Liminal about the hitman tasked with killing the son he never knew he had. That floated the town a couple years ago
Um am I the only one in town who saw FELON? It was basically a MOW, a completely on-the-nose movie in every respect.
I would love to see a film in which population control is a good thing, not Big Government evil. Do you really want to live in a world with 60 billion people? I couldn’t get past the pilot of Terra Nova because it showed the same thing: the good people who continue to have kids despite the human race ruining the planet, depicted as heroes.
