EXCLUSIVE: Three weeks after ABC opted not to give a back order to submarine drama Last Resort, the series co-star Robert Patrick has signed on a series regular on HBO’s vampire drama True Blood, playing Alcide’s (Joe Manganiello) father. Patrick first introduced the character on the hit HBO drama in the most recent fifth season where he did a three-episode arc, appearing in the three of the last four episodes of the season. He was tapped for the recurring gig in June, after his pilot Last Resort had been picked up to series by ABC. While the broadcast network
stopped short of a formal cancellation of Last Resort, and the cast of the show are still under deals at Sony Pictures TV, I hear Patrick is being released so he can join True Blood.
On the big screen, Terminator alum Patrick, repped by Gersh and Coronel Group, will next be seen in Warner Bros’ Gangster Squad, Universal’s Identity Thief, and indie Lovelace, which is premiering at next month’s Sundance Film Festival.

True Blood needs LESS regulars!
It’s time for True Blood to bow out gracefully. Last season was appalling and there’s no reason to think this coming one will be any better.
Personally I think that “True Blood” has already seen it’s best years go by (seasons 3-4), there is no way HBO is going to let this cash cow end before at least the principle’s contracts are up at the end of Season 7.
Great actors always land on their feet. Always enjoy seeing him.
I enjoy the show, but do they really need THAT many regulars? The last two seasons, even with all the death, the cast has been so crowded that nobody gets enough screen time. Even the *leads*.
I enjoy the show and last season very much. however if I was Sookie I would have been really disappointed not to sample Alcide but thats another topic. I look forward to more of Robert Patrick on the show.
So when does the mummy or Godzilla show up in Bon Temps?
Oh God. I guess I would have to push Fast Forward button even more.
I mean sometimes I like Robert Patrick. His performance in Terminator was amazing and I like him since those times. But Gosh I can’r stand Alcide. Such a non-character. He is fifth wheel and has no sense on being it True Blood world. Whole last season I was literally pushing Fast Forward button every time when he was on screen (if that didn’t involve major characters).
It’s not like I would miss anything important because Alcide has his own storyline that does not have anything in common with the main story. He lives in his own wolf world with their problems that no one cares about. I missed his scenes with his father because I didn’t care. And now they tell that there will be more scenes with Alcide and his father? No thanks. I will use my button again.
To be honest, I enjoy the book version of this story much better with the exception of Lafyette’s and Tara’s characters. I do love what True Blood did with them. But other than that, the books had more meat, the story line is almost completely different. After the first couple episodes of True Blood, the story took a sharp turn away and hasn’t looked back. Its been a bit disappointing. Especially the whole Lilith story. If you have never read the books you wouldn’t notice it. Alcide’s father was never a major character in the books, so I will hold my opinion till I see where they take it.
One word. Billith!
The only good I can see from this is to lead in to the pack leader competition and bring in Quinn. If not, I may have to call it what it is. Done.
Interesting to see who Quinn will be played by, I can’t recall any large muscular bald men showing up in Hollywood lately.
I think that the seasons are too short to be really appreciated by fans. They finish before the plot really builds up. I think that there is a lot of room for improvement, particularly if they have until season 7, they need to put a little more effort into the amount of episodes per season – perhaps 22 rather than 12 ? And not such a big gap in between each season also. The “Alcide plot” died when his fling with Sooki did. His wolf-pack life is not the most interesting thing about the trueblood series. There are plenty of other Vamp and wolf series to watch, HBO needs to pull finger and listen to the public. Longer series or with a shorter gap in between each one. Simple. Sure they have to spend a few extra dollars with longer series but I think that the fan base would increase massively AKA – more money for HBO. THINK HBO, THINK.
I absolutely love this show and hope to continue. Lots of shows hit a rough patch at some point but maybe they’ll turn it around in season 6 and make the show worth while.
He was killed off in the books :/
Um… no he wasn’t!
Oh, hang on, I just realised you must mean Alcide’s Dad, not Alcide… my apologies!
i love the show … keep bringing out great seasons. And i love regs “:D this the best show everrrrrrrrrrrrr….!!!
I love the True Blood and Alcide is yummie to look at. As my husband loves to see Sookie I love to see him and Erik. Can’t wait to see the next season in the Netherlands.
I just wished True Blood could stay a bit true to the books.
Fifth season for me was not very good.
I love True Blood. I read the books, love them. I watch the show, love it. I do have to say though, the show has lost some of it’s sexiness. I am not sure that adding this guy is going to improve that. I hope they do a bit of a facelift for the next season. Bring back the awesome wardrobe!
I’m just wondering when will Quinn be introduced.
Remember when the show used to be southern, now even the accents are fairly generic. Alan Ball wasted Chris Meloni last season. The show has lost its charm. really.
I love this show and the last season was fabulous, heavy on story, not so much on action due to Anna’s pregnancy, which was to be expected, but many still want to bitch
The show will back once again to it’s full glory this season. Even attempting to compare this series to the teen fare of the god awful Vampire Diaries is ridiculous, as for Quinn, he was one of the most annoying characters from the book. This is an excellent adult themed show. And I am looking forward to more seasons.
True Blood is my favorite show! I love the story line and continuous change to the story plot. Keep up the good work and screw what these so called self-critics think!
Book series is better, it’s not the freak show the writers turned it into.
They just need to keep Sookie and Eric; hell or bill, either way more sparks between the men I know keeps us ladies lovin’ it! Wasn’t nearly enough of that last season!
True blood season 1 was the best by far after that each season seemed to get worse they need to cut the show before it and the cast become a joke .
