EXCLUSIVE: ABC’s Once Upon A Time regularly goes back in time to Storybrook residents’ former lives in fairytale land. Now the show will jump even further back in the past with an origin episode. Rose McGowan has been tapped to guest star in the origin episode playing a younger version of the Evil Queen’s evil mom Cora (Barbara Hershey) in a flashback. This marks APA-repped McGowan’s return to magic drama series after her five-year starring turn on Charmed. She also played a sorceress in the recent Conan remake.

Awesome! Maybe she’ll use her Evil Enchantress voice like she did in the Charmed season 4 episode “A Knight To Remember”.
I LOVED that episode
Here we have the older and younger versions of the same character, and both actresses have had work done. I feel catty and shallow for even bringing this up, but can we talk honestly about casting actors who have had obvious plastic surgery? I find facelifts, lip injections, and the like to be really distracting as a viewer. Actors go under the knife to look younger, but many end up looking weird. I find it particularly annoying when I see it in period pieces. I don’t want to see pioneer women, empresses, and queens who look like Real Housewives. I see it with male actors as well. Do filmmakers, producers, and casting directors have issues with this?
Since my understanding is that producers, film makers and casting directors reel in horror at the very thought of casting a woman who is over 30 and looks her age, I am certain they are aware of it. They are making the rules. Way to go, blaming the victims of Hollywood’s idea of castable for trying to remain employed in the jobs they have been doing for years.
I make no apologies for asking the question, although I should have added a disclaimer that I completely sympathize with the pressures actors face in a beauty/youth-obsessed marketplace. I don’t “blame” actors for getting their teeth fixed, wearing toupees, or getting a facelift. As I said, I just don’t like it when I’m thinking about an actor’s face when I should be lost in the character. I was wondering if people involved with casting ever consider that.
Rose only had work done after she was in a horrible car accident where she almost lost an eye.Its way she looks so different.:/
Cosmetic surgery is fine as long as you don’t go overboard and/or you luck out with a good surgeon or operation.
Anyway, wasn’t Rose McGowan’s plastic surgery a result of a horrible car accident?
Rose was in a horrible car accident, and almost lost an eye. That’s the reason she had surgery in the first place…
I don’t mind as long affect noticeably the way they look, like Michelle Pfeiffer who is an example of good plastic surgery. That being said, at least Barbara looks good/decent, the same can’t be said of Rose.
All of you guys have stop using as an excuse the whole accident thing. The way people tend to exaggerate things always amuses me, I mean she did have an accident, but the extent of her “disfigurement” was a scar under her eye. Why would an injury to the eye require her to have large amounts of filler injected into her cheeks and lips? Rose’s face was back to normal by 2008. Her new face didn’t premiere until 2009, years after her accident. One thing is to try fix your face because of an accident, another is to add botox and fillers. If you’ve seen pictures of her after her surgery she still looked good and natural, it was some time after that she decided to mess up her face, which believe me has nothing to do with her accident…just look at her lips and cheeks.
I so agree- It is distracting enough in modern day shows- to see the shiny face the pulled skin the fish lips the eyes so tight the fake boobs etc But is really takes me out of the story in a period piece.
Sad that both these women look the same in that distorted plastic way. it never makes people look younger just freaky.
Hard to care about characters with face work like this!
I don’t like the plastic surgery either, but it doesn’t take away from the talent they have as actors. Additionally, Rose has been in a car accident, which led to the surgery on her end. Either way though, I think it sux people do it, but it’s a personal choice, and people have the right to try and make themselves feel better about themselves. It’s obviously better if they can do it without that stuff, but w/e no one is perfect.
This is indeed good news! Once Upon A Time is one of my favorite shows. Having a charmed one on the show just makes it even better.
Rose McGowan actually got work done after getting in a car accident. I think she got some glass struck her face.
After McGowan’s run on Charmed and her turn as a wicked sorceress in the somewhat underrated Conan remake and now this, I’m starting to detect a trend.
I hope this means more action for ONCE UPON A TIME. Rose has always done such cool stunts.
Wow, that is so cool! Yay, Rose McGowan is playing a younger Cora. Maybe they’ll finally show the younger version of Regina’s father, Henry played by a random actor.
