With more political plot intrigue than ever, Homeland was propelled to an all-time ratings high Sunday. It even beat Showtime’s usual top show, Dexter. The spy thriller series pulled in 2.2 million viewers for its initial 10 PM broadcast, beating the high from its October 28 episode, which had 2.07 million viewers. With its secondary broadcast, Homeland delivered 2.5 million overall viewers. Amid online backlash from fans about the twists the usually stern series is taking this season, it is also the first time a new Homeland has performed better than a new Dexter. Showtime’s regular top series drew 2.1 million viewers at 9 PM on Sunday. With encores, Dexter ended up on top with 2.63 million viewers overall. Homeland‘s sophomore season ends December 16.

Best episode of the season. Prob guaranteed another Emmy 4 best drama.
Dexter was up against two season finales — Boardwalk and Walking Dead. Homeland won’t beat them again because Dexter’s 9pm number was well below its average thus far this season.
Is it slightly depressing that your lives have been reduced to not just watching television for the sake of simple enjoyment but instead measuring the perceived quality of shows based on Nielsen ratings and award nominations?
it’s called being in the business of any industry.
Unconcerned about awards and media attention. These are great storytelling shows. Writers write what they want to; actors-actresses don’t care about being unlikeable and glamorous. It’s powerful work all around. DEXTER and HOMELAND simply rock.
Homeland is absolutely fantastic. Best show on TV, though Breaking Bad puts up a good fight. Dexter, in my opinion, sucks now. Several years ago it used to be the best show on TV also but the quality of the plots and writing has degraded to the point where the writers and producers should very seriously and strongly consider ending the show. These past two seasons–with the Christian serial killer psychopath guy–and this season with The Ukrainian mob and the gay guy and Dexter’s new love, have been of subpar quality, and far below the peak of previous seasons of Dexter. It’s been 7 seasons already. It’s time to end it.
