UPDATE 11:30 PM: According to programming listings released this evening, Fox is replacing the original episodes of Family Guy and American Dad on Sunday to avoid airing any potentially sensitive content in the aftermath of the Connecticut school shooting.
PREVIOUS 4:20PM: Tonight’s scheduled 10PM episode of Haven contained scenes of fictitious violence in a high school. In light of today’s tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut, we have decided not to air it. At this time, no decision has been made as to when the episode will air.

Sincerely: Classy move, SyFy – you have my respect.
That’s very responsible for a network, syfy is one of my favorite channels, and that’s what is the right thing to do
That was very considerate
It’s a series of murders at a high school reunion at the high school rather than a series of murders of students, but nevertheless it’s definitely, absolutely reasonable for SyFy to substitute one of Eureka’s Christmas episodes.
However, they’ve really got reschedule this episode to air next Friday, either followed by the episode scheduled for that night or pushing that episode back a week. Last week’s episode ended on the cliffhanger of the season-long serial killer brandishing a gun on Audrey, the lead character and thus, airing the episodes out of sequence is simply unacceptable. This isn’t like when the “Earshot” episode of Buffy bore more than a passing resemblance to the Columbine massacre that occurred shortly before “Earshot” was originally supposed to air. On the one hand, Earshot’s content was closer to the impacting tragedy than Haven’s is and on the other hand, Earshot was a stand-alone episode that could easily be pushed off for months whereas the Haven episode is a mythology episode, by definition heavily dependent on being aired in sequence.
just buy it on iTunes or something… sheesh. it cannot be THATimportant to you

If you are a fan and regular view of the series (which you obviously aren’t) it is EXTREMELY important to show this episode. This is a serial not a procedural series and the episode was to address a major situation in the story line which effect the entire season. And not every viewer is like you, most don’t know what iTunes is or do not access any TV shows on anything other than their TV!
I agree. While it was a very responcible decision they can’t just air the next episode next week without showing “reunion”. Plus I think that we should be able to download it from amazon if you want to see it. that way it’s our responcibility and not theirs.
I can’t but see this as nothing more than another meaningless empty gesture by the Hollywood establishment. If you want to change the culture of violence in this country, stop promoting violence in the majority of mainstream tv and film. Simple enough. The irony in all of this is that I actually learned about this incident after I flipped the channel from a commercial for “Gangster Squad,” what hypocrisy!
Rob, time to move out of your parents basement and learn about the real world. There’s more to life other than a TV show.
John… time to get you head out of your butt and stop insulting someone just because they are a fan of this TV show (which you obviously aren’t). Will showing the episode next week cause a spat of violence in America? No. Will it hurt the show to have that episode either canned or shown out of order? Yes. Is this important to life? Obviously not. Rob’s comment is pointing out that this episode is extremely important for the show and should be shown in the order it was intended.
What a tired cliche. Why don’t you not worry about what is or what is not important to others? I promise that to most people your opinion on out priorities is at most an annoyance.
While I feel for the families affected by the tragedy, and I’m sorry to be insensitive but bad things happen all the time, I don’t see why there is a need to not air a fictional show just because the writers take real life stories and incorporate them into show plot lines. Is it ever going to be an appropriate time to air shows that have mass murder themes? Why do they even write plot lines like that? I mean take Grey’s Anatomy, you have a 2 part episode that has a shooter walking throughout the hospital mowing down pretty much everything in his path then kills himself, then the following season you have the storyline where there was a mass shooting on a nearby campus, so really why should any network have any sensitivity towards anyone when they will only use this tragedy as material for future show episodes.
I agree
That was a good call since those two shows push boundaries all the time
My question is, why do FAMILY GUY and AMERICAN DAD have anything that would regularly be objectionable in the first place?
When we were watching the coming attractions before Skyfall last month I remarked to my friend that if I saw one more piece of gun porn I was going to barf. Six trailers and all of them filled with mindless and graphic violence. We are either a sick or lazy culture or both.
This is how the studios make their money, action films make money and bland sex comedys do not. People arn’t going to pay over $10 (plus several $ on snacks) for a movie ticket to be bored out of their minds. Violent flick have been around for a hundered years, have we been sick or lazy for that long?
That is where the glamorization comes from: if you want to be interesting, go on a rampage. If you want to be boring, keep taking the hard knocks until you die.
There’s nothing classy about this, another stupid overreaction. I just hope this nonsense dosen’t get as absurd as the Aurora tragedy where The Italian Job was pulled from tv.
I think the people who need to reevaluate their programming choices are the news networks who bring us “continuing coverage” of events like this for days after. These events get sensationalized and they bring on fifty talking heads to tell us that the killing of innocent people was “a senseless tragedy” in case we weren’t sure. Almost every spree killer in the past ten years has said something about wanting to be famous before he went out to do the deed. Talking about them for hours on every channel just gives them what they want.
I don’t understand why networks do this. Is an episode of Haven that contains FICTIONAL violence in a high school really going to upset anyone if it airs at its normal time and date? Meanwhile, three of the big 4 networks and every cable news network were airing coverage of the actual shooting, sticking cameras and microphones in the faces of grieving parents, trying to squeeze every bit of blood and heart ache out of it for ratings.I find the latter far more offensive. If you are going to be offended by an airing of Haven, then just don’t watch it and let me have my one hour of mindless TV on a Friday night where I don’t have to be reminded that some sick fuck killed 20 children.
What I’ll never understand is how we grasp at things to blame in tragedies like this. We skewer the entertainment industry; we demonize law abiding gun owners; we seem to do everything but blame the sick, twisted idiot that committed the crime. Nothing was his fault it seems; it was all the rest of us that “helped” him do it.
I’m sure after an appropriate time of grieving, everyone in America will want to get back to watching our favorite toddler Stewie’s antics involving violent shootings, pedophilia, and other assorted depravity.
From Wikipedia’s opening paragraph describing his character: “Once obsessed with violence and matricide, Stewie… has a strong hatred for his mother Lois Griffin, as it is his lifelong goal to kill her.” Keep reading the Wikipedia article, and you’ll revel in a deSade-ian catalog of the repulsive psychopath’s murderous activities… but don’t worry, you’ll also be consoled by Stewie’s softer, gentler side, too…
Can’t wait for the fun to continue!
You know things are serious when America has to go 24 hours without seeing a Seth MacFarlane program.
I don’t understand this. I grieve for the victims but why compound it by punishing the writers of “Family Guy” who toil diligently and work so hard? Why give this madman satisfaction by adding to the victims’ list, which now includes the staffs of the two shows. Don’t let the bad guys win. Run the damn shows.
What’s makes these Family Guy/American Dad episodes more offensive than any of the others?
All i know is this is the first tv show that i ever enjoyed and i can not wait to see what happens next! But i do understand why the are doing what they are doing I’m still anxiously waiting for it to come back on!
