Lionsgate‘s latest Tyler Perry pic Tyler Perry’s Temptation, which he wrote and directed, stars Friday Night Lights alum Jurnee Smollett, Lance Gross, Vanessa Williams, Robbie Jones and Kim Kardashian in a drama about a married marriage counselor (Smollett) who falls into a relationship with a rich client (Jones), and the myriad ethical complications that arise. The pic is set for a March 29, 2013 release and there’s plenty more in the Tyler Perry Studios-Lionsgate pipeline: the studio already has set dates for the Perry-written and -directed untitled Madea’s Christmas film (December 13, 2013) and Single Moms Club (May 9, 2014). Remember, Perry had to take to his website to defend casting Kardashian in the film, which he did before her own marriage came and went faster than an E! News update.

Tone seems to be consistent. We’re making progress!!!
Psyched about it.
No Madea, no Tyler –> Progress!
Ugh. Horrible.
You know what, it doesn’t look bad!
What’s wrong with simply calling it “Temptation”? It drives me nuts that he has to put his name in every title.
Is he even actually in the movie?
Remember that Disney is a person Walt Disney that is how you get your name out. If you Wrote and Directed a movie wouldnt you want peole to know.
nice! i like
Thanks for putting Cali in check
It doesn’t look bad, but Kim Kardashian was terrible in her scenes. Everybody else is such a seasoned and natural actor and then she came along. I have nothing against the Kardatian’s, but they really have very little talent. I don’t understand why they can’t just focus on reality tv and leave the hosting, singing, fashion design and acting to people who are capable. I’d be okay with them doing these things if they sought the training to be good at it, but since it’ll be handed to them they don’t see a need for that.
Yikes. That stinks.
And I’m so surprised at the mild responses on this board of haters, especially since it is an old DH favorite to hate – T. Perry.
I’ve got some respect for him (more on an existential level, not an artistic one) but I have to say this flick screams Lifetime MOW, what is it doing in the theaters? Oh right… black folks will watch anything as long as TP’s name is attached… Sad.
“black folks will watch anything as long as TP’s name is attached… Sad.”
Check out the grosses on FOR COLORED GIRLS, DADDY’S LITTLE GIRLS, and GOOD DEEDS. Oh, and ALEX CROSS.
@Monique Please don’t generalize black people because I don’t like most of his movies and I’m black.
Looks like the Mayans weren’t wrong after all.
Tyler Perry Presents Tyler Perry in a Tyler Perry Production of a Film by Tyler Perry Starring Tyler Perry and Produced and Directed by Tyler Perry you can never have enough Tyler Perry he is the ultimate in Tyler Perry obsession.
It doesn’t look horrible.
Not a Tyler Perry fan, but you know what? This looks not horrible!
Perry’s letter defending his casting Kardashian is hysterical. Not once does he bother to say he hired her because she’s a good actress, or he thought she would be good in the role. He admits it’s all about marketing, not about talent or art.
I am not a Tyler Perry fan, but at least he hires more Black people ( in front of and behind the camera). I am sad to see Vanessa Williams acting with a horrid accent. My goodness that was painful.
Probably the same reason Walt Disney and Jim Henson used their names and branded them until they became household names even after they’re long gone. Still unsure? How about Jim Henson presents the Muppets and Walt’s various Disney (his last name by the way) products, parks, toys, *movies*, etc. So in response, Tyler Perry possibly does the same with his name because it’s a form of marketing/branding to become a household name. We mustn’t believe that he would think any less of his empire of sorts. Would you? If you found yourself similarly blessed in creating something you could forsee in being bigger than what you could ever imagine? I would assume so does he. Have a wonderful New Year, my dear.
I dunno how people are saying this doesn’t look horrible – and highly predictable to boot. Vanessa Williams’ accent alone will keep this film from “A” status, nevermind Kim Kardashian.
I’d actually rather see Madea, but only in a movie that’s actually a comedy, not those comedy-melodrama mishmashes she started out in.
Tyler Perry is a genius!!! He has lowered expectations so low that “It doesn’t look horrible” is actually a vote of approval for one of his films!
My first words after watching were, besides Kim Kardashian and Vanessa Williams’ accent, it doesn’t look awful.
Oh, and BTW, all black people will not just go see something because TP’s name is attached to it, however, a lot of black people will go watch a predominantly black cast in a wide release that has a strong marketing push. Like any other group, it’s nice to see people that look like you on screen. Doesn’t matter if they are aspirational, relateable or at times disdainful, it’s just nice to see.
All of us being in a marriage or in a relatioship have had temptation of one form or another, but it is how we choose to deal with these temptation that makes all difference. What is it that really drive someone to this point? Is it pain, neglect,or desire or the lack of desire???
It doesn’t look bad, but I agree with the person about it looking like a life time movie….and by the way Alex Cross was a HORRIBLE movie.
DID U ACTUALLY SAY ALEX CROSS WAS A BAD MOVIE ?? U CANNOT POSSIBLY BE SERIOUS !!! IT WAS FANTASTIC !! TYLER IS A FANTASTIC SERIOUS ACTOR !! HE SHOULD WIN AN ACADEMY AWARD FOR HIS ROLE. MATTHEW FOX TOO !! THEY WERE BOTH PHENOMINAL !! IVE SEEN EVERY SINGLE MOVIE HES IN..I AM A HUGE FAN. EXTREMELY SUPERBLY TALENTED. AND NOT BAD ON THE EYES….I SAW MADEAS BIG HAPPY FAMILY, THE PLAY IN NYC A FEW YRS AGO OMG…HE WAS BEYOND OUTSTANDING. I WOULDNT MIND IF HE PAID A VISIT TO MY HOUSE !!! WHAT I WOULDNT GIVE FOR A NIGHT WITH THIM….YUMMMM…..TYLER IS A GOOD CARING WONDERFUL SWEET LOVING DOWN TO EARTH PERSON. HES OVERCOME INCREDIBLE ODDS THE LIKES OF WHICH IS UNIMAGINABLE TO ME…TO BECOME THE TREMENDOUS SUCCESS HE IS TODAY…QUITE THE MAN. I HOPE TO HAVE THE HONOR OF MEETING HIM ONE DAY. I HIGHLY SUGGEST U WATCH THE MOVIE AGAIN. AND HIS TV SHOWS R ALL GREAT TOO, ESPECIALLY FOR BETTER OR WORSE.
I love “TYLER PERRY’S” movies…I think he is a very gifted individual…and is trying to make a difference in a society that so often shuns doing what is morally right…(The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.John 10:10)…Keep doing what you are called to do Tyler Perry…God Bless…Looks like a very GOOD movie to me!
I loved the play, I want to see the movie…and yes, I’m a Tyler Perry’s fan…
LMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Listen….is it really that serious? Tyler P. is a talented, creative writer Its sad when WE who may not be able to share our creativity we possess tear down those who aren’t ashamed to put theirs out there We are better than that black folks!
Enjoyed the trailer – am so looking forward to the actual picture.
It’s another Tyler Perry masterpiece. I haven’t seen one film by Tyler Perry that I have not thoroughly enjoyed. His work is fantastic.
