Another moving tribute to the murdered children and teachers from Connecticut’s Sandy Hook Elementary: The coaches and the contestants of NBC‘s The Voice opened the performance finale last night with a rendition of Leonard Cohen’s anthem “Hallelujah” while holding cards with the names of the massacre’s 26 victims.

27, actually…they held a card for the shooter’s mother, as well. This is such a moving tribute. Newtown is my hometown and I’m so grateful to the artists, producers, and executives who took the time to do something so beautiful that resonates so much. Sometimes our industry moves me to where words aren’t enough. Thank you to everyone involved.
I’ve never watched The Voice and probably never will but this was a beautiful tribute that made me cry.
Jesus, put some extra autotune on that mess.
^^There’s always a critic.
It was a beautiful effort. But I have to agree w/that statement.
I have no kids, but I can’t seem to get over the shock of what happened…I wish this tribute were better and as moving as the one SNL did.
This was a nice thing they did. Too bad it was followed by three singers who sound like cats in heat. Then the judges praise them like they’ve never heard anything like that before. (I know, this article isn’t about that — relax and laugh with me people)
Wrong thing to laugh at…..people!
That’s was nice, unfortunatly nothing will make those famlies feel better after the horror they experinced, but nice just the same. Its tragic that the events that galvanize this country are the ones that scare and shock us, 911 and Newton to name just 2. What’s worse is that our sensitivity to others and the demands for change will fade away to quickly. I’m glad that the Voice and others are keeping this fresh in everyone’s minds, it increases the liklihood of change being enacted. I don’t think our country has been in worse shape…violence, financial meltdown, pathetic education, politicians not truly caring about America just about themselves. Still, I believe that true change can happen and maybe this is the catalyst for the bigger change that is needed.
Congratulations to NBC and The Voice for a poignant moment in the aftermath of such horrible tragedy. I wish I knew the name of the individual who first suggested this idea so I could send him/her a personal note. These are the ideas that can lift millions and last a lifetime. Someone was thinking … and executing. Kudos to all.
Beautiful……simply beautiful. I’m a teacher, and I tear up so often thinking of what happened. Thank you for a beautiful tribute.
Simply Beautiful
Extremely Touching
Unfortunate to have to see
One can critisize all they want, it will never bring them back and will never diminish the pain and hurt the families will suffer. Instead of critisizing maybe one should sit back and reflect on how lucky they are and hug and give their own families and children a special hug. It was one of the most poignant moments I have witnessed on tv in a very longtime. As a Flight Attendant who lost a partner and many extended family members on 9/11 my heart and soul goes out to those families. This is a Chirstmas that will never be forgotten and for the wrong reason.
