Monday saw all the networks take a hit as the holiday season began and ESPN had Monday Night Football in primetime with the New York Giants playing the Washington Redskins. It was double performances from the final six contestants on The Voice (3.9/10) last night, but the singing competition was down 7% from last week. With strong numbers, Blake Shelton’s Not So Family Christmas (2.8/7) added more Voice to the NBC lineup. Almost matching Revolution’s fall finale numbers from last week, the special saw the country singer mix skits and songs with appearances by Jay Leno, Reba McEntire, spouse Miranda Lambert and fellow Voice judge Christina Aguilera. With 10.98 million watching, NBC won the night in total viewers and the adults 18-49 demographic.
ABC kicked off the night with Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (0.9/3) at 8 PM, followed by another Extreme Makeover (1.1/3) in the show’s regular slot at 9 PM. The 9 PM Makeover was down 15% from last Monday’s season premiere. Castle (1.7/4) was down 15% from its last original broadcast two weeks ago, marking a five-season series low for the comedy-drama.
On CBS, at 8 PM How I Met Your Mother (3.0/9) was down 9% from last week. That was followed by a repeat of 2 Broke Girls (2.2/5), then a new 2 Broke Girls (3.5/9) which was down 15% from last week’s season high. At 9:30 PM, Mike & Molly (3.1/8) was down 14% from last week, with Hawaii Five-0 (2.2/6) slipping 4% from its November 26 show.
Having perked up last week, Fox’s Bones (1.9/5) was down 21% from last Monday’s show. The struggling The Mob Doctor (0.8/2) took even more of a fall, sliding 27% from last week. The CW’s 90210 (0.5/1) and Gossip Girl (0.4/1) were flat with last week.

Bones last night was horrible. I’m not surprised that it might be down.
Funny, and I thought last night’s Bones was one of the best. Right up there with the previous week’s episode about the War Veteran / 9/11 Victim. God Bless America – land of infinite diversity of thought.
I agree with Todd – Bones was borderline unwatchable.
Camera point of view from the victim should not have lasted the entire episode. Film school gimmick gone bad.
Castle has been horrible lately. They’ve taken it from a crime drama to more of a silly joke…the last few weeks have been ridiculous…the writers must have gotten bored writing quality episodes.
2 Broke Girls has potential but I’m getting tired of the same jokes every single week. (except the big boob jokes will have to stop soon because Kat is getting so thin her boobs are shrinking as well)
It’s sort of like Mike & Molly – it can be hilarious but then some weeks it’s completely the same old same old with the fat jokes and pothead jokes. Sometimes it gets a bit stale.
I’ve stuck it out, but I’m teetering on giving up both.
I have no idea why Fox even bothered renewing Bones. Personally, I jumped ship after that whole baby storyline began. This show became unwatchable for me. It’s a shame because it used to be one of my favorite programs. I can easily understand why so many fans have given up on Bones. Fox should seriously consider ending this mess this season.
I gave up when 1 out of ever 3 episode turned out to be an hour long car ad, namely that episode where the sheer awesomeness of the Prius got Hodgins and Angela arrested.
Broadcast viewing didn’t fall because of the Holiday season, but because of “NFL Monday Night Football” on ESPN.
It drew one-third more viewers than any other broadcast-network show.
Next Monday (December 10th), things will get even worse for the broadcast networks, given that the Monday-night NFL game will feature Houston and New England in a potential AFC Championship Game preview.
Next Monday’s game may draw a “MNF” record. I can see 18 to 20 million viewers tuning-in.
It may draw twice as many viewers as any broadcast-network show.
Good for NBC!
Counting days for more Revolution.
Tried to watch Hawaii yesterday. The show reached a new low level with all those models. Gave up after 20 minutes. And I had thought it could not get more ridiculous.
Tough months ahead with both Revolution and The Walking Dead on hiatus, sigh,
CASTLE – one of the best episodes ever. They know their characters. I thought it was a nice Christmas gift. I especially liked how they turned things around for Esposito as well, that was very cool.
BONES – worst episode ever. Seriously, who are these characters and what have they done with the ones we used to love? Even Cyndi Lauper was totally wasted this Avalon time around with nothing to do. Jesus F. Christ. Just cancel it already and put the fans – who are hoping apparently against all hope – out of their misery.
I swear to dog that if 2 broke girls gets any worse I will stop drinking
LOL, I’m with you buddy.
Anyone else lament the modern sitcom? I miss you Cheers and Cosby and Seinfled and even you Friends!
