Holy bubble-top! The car used in the 1966-68 Batman TV series will be auctioned off in January. Customizer George Barris bought the 1955 Lincoln Futura Concept car for $1 from the Ford Motor Co. Barris was given $15,000 and 15 days to gadgetize the handmade two-seater. He added a nose-mounted aluminum Cable Cutter Blade, Batphone, Bat Ray Projector, Automatic Tire Inflator and other fluorishes such as twin parachutes used to execute 180-degree turns. Barris still owns the one-of-a-kind car that came with a push-button transmission. It’s expected to fetch seven figures when the gavel comes down at the auction January 19th in Scottsdale, Ariz. Clark Gable’s personal 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing Coupe will also be sold that day. Notable showbiz cars typically go for large sums. The 1964 Aston Martin DB5 used in the James Bond films “Goldfinger” and “Thunderball” sold for $4.6 million at auction in 2010.

That was the coolest Batmobile ever, and I want it. It is being auctioned off on my birthday. Somebody please buy it for me.
Now THAT is a Batmobile! Screw the metal box on wheels of the last three films. We need to see this kind of imaginative design again (Tim Burton nailed it).
Best Batmobile EVER. I’d pay just to sit in it for awhile!
But what condition is it in? Yes, this Batmobile #1, but it’s also sat in Barris’ showroom for the last 43 years. It’s going to need some restoration.
Every other car out there from Barris were other screen cars from the series, or ones created for the circut.
I saw it close-up about 3 years ago, and it was in pretty good shape then. Not showroom-new, but not over-restored.
I bid five million for it but why am I bidding on a car I already own?
Somebody notify Chief O’Hara and Commissioner Gordon my Batmobile was stolen!
You can get a brand new one. http://www.buybatparts.com/joomla/index.php/replicas
Wow, i can’t believe he’s finally parting with the #1 car. I would love to have it or even a replica. Sadly though, until someone figures out how to put windshield wipers on the car its not street legal.
Save your money folks, Ralph Garman will own this!
