Universal Pictures has announced it will release the sci-fi pic Riddick in U.S. theaters, including IMAX, on September 6, 2013. Riddick is the third chapter of the saga that began with 2000′s Pitch Black and 2004′s The Chronicles Of Riddick. The film reunites writer/director David Twohy (A Perfect Getaway, The Fugitive) and The Fast And The Furious star Vin Diesel, who reprises his role as the antihero Riddick, a dangerous, escaped convict wanted by every bounty hunter in the known galaxy.

Wrong. If he were wanted by every bounty hunter in the known galaxy then Boba Fett would be after him and I don’t think Boba Fett will be in this movie. Purists can argue that Boba Fett is from a galaxy far far away but with a guy like Riddickulous (MAD magazine character name) who surely has a very large price on his head we have to assume that Boba Fett would travel to our galaxy to try and apprehend him. Vin should play two parts in this movie he should also play Kojak it will save money by combining the two parts into one sequel. Go Universal.
“A galaxy far far away” would be a different galaxy. -15 nerd points.
Here’s a sequel that didn’t need to be made…
Wow, September 6th for an anticipated Sci-Fi sequel? Must not be much confidence in the title if they are feeding it to the dod days of early fall.
Chronicles of Riddick was actually very good. There is an audience for this sequel.
I don’t think it’s really giving it away to the dogs because if it’s good and stays true than it will do great and it’s all by itself on the weekend plus the weekend before is full oh horrible sounding movies and the week after is a bunch of movies that have had a hard time getting to theatres so it will do fine
The second RIDDICK move was a huge hit with “urban” audiences in the US and internationally. This pic was funded by money raised by Vin’s company, and was done on a very conservative budget. The international pre-sales already have this thing in profit, and Sept was chosen to clear the way for Urban audiences to lead the opening weekend. Learn your business.

Hey Sarah B. Maybe you should yourself learn before telling someone else to learn the business. Riddick was a box office and video failure. Universal sold the rights to Vin since they didn’t want to make another one. No way would a studio sell off the rights to anything that’s making them money. I’m sure because of his relationship with them and the F&F franchise, which is making them a killing, they played the political card and distributed this probable POS. I say probable as I haven’t seen it yet, so that’s the only part I’m guessing at.
Pitch Black did very well and there is an audience for this pic and that is why the budget is smaller for this one. The sequels problem was they swung for the fence with a number 7 hitter when going for a double would have been enough.
It’s a property with potential. But a property which hasn’t been fully exploited yet. In other words, it could be a classic if handled right.
I’ll go just to see Katee on screen. She just oozes “I’ll slap you silly until you love me”…..
Uh Sarah, the urban audience wants nothing to do with Riddick. There’s no one in the “hood” waiting for another Riddick sequel, learn your urban audience.

So we finally get to see whatever happened to StarBuck and where the Underverse fits into the Chronicles of Riddick’s Universe.
I for one think it will be better than a Sequel or Prequel to the Sequel of the finale for LOST
