EXCLUSIVE: Zooey Deschanel has signed with UTA. She was with CAA. Indie film darling Deschanel stars on Fox’s comedy series New Girl, which has earned her Emmy and Golden Globe nominations. Deschanel is also a Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter who records and performs in the band She & Him. Additionally, she is a co-founder of the female-targeted entertainment and pop culture website HelloGiggles.com, which she created along with partners Sophia Rossi and Molly Mcaleer. (Rossi is also repped by UTA.) This season, Deschanel and Hello Giggles ventured into series development with Must Be Nice, a comedy written by New Girl consulting producer J.J. Philbin, which sold to Fox with a script commitment. Deschanel’s feature credits include 500 Days Of Summer and Almost Famous. She continues to be repped by manager Sarah Jackson and attorney Steve Warren.

I think this is a great move for her.. not sure what is going on over there at CAA. First Oprah, now Zooey? Who will it be tomorrow! Just goes to show bigger companies do not always mean better.

Are you suggesting that Sundance is an Indie festival? Have you seen the credits on a huge portion of the movies that screen there.

hopefully they will steer her towards her potential of being a star, and not just the money on a below average sitcom. She showed moments of brilliance in Elf and 500, and it would be great to see her do more films and be done with tv altogether. I’m still confused why she did New Girl…

I cannot wait when one of my favorite actresses Cameron Diaz will leave CAA. They did absolutely nothing for her career. When she was leaving ICM for them she was the biggest female star in Hollywood (along with Julia Roberts). Now she’s just another of plenty A-list actresses who star in typical Hollywood comedies. I know ICM is in dumps now but they did good with her. Maybe signing with UTA or WME would be good for her. I know they would treat her how she deserves to be.
UTA is a sinking ship. They aren’t going to be able to do anything. Love Zooey and hope she jumps ship soon after. She deserves better.

Tracey Jacobs is going to have to bust her ass to get all these women feature lead roles (which is what Zooey, who is great at what she does, is obviously looking for) a tall order that will keep her (Jacobs) very distracted – something for Rachel McAdams and Gwyneth Paltrow to bear in mind. And with Depp in high end box office purgatory/on the bubble at the moment…and Jodie looking for directing gigs…and…
The problem is that these actors are coming to UTA becaus CAA or WME can’t get them those lead roles, and they feel as if it’s better to be a big fish in a small pond. Makes sense, but agents can only do so much. No one who has a big role wants to give it to Zooey or Rachel, they want to give it to someone with a better name, more star power, or more talent, some combination of the three.

I agree she should have never done New Girl. But who told her to? At the end of the day, it was her choice and nobody elses…and now her film career is probably doomed forever. Fox will keep New Girl on forever, even though it’s horrible because they don’t have anything else to air, so in another five years how is she going to parlay that into a film? Not to mention she is being branded as “adorkable” which basically translates into negative box office success. What a shame, bc she has some real talent.

I think Anne Hathaway stole this girl’s movie career. Zoe could have EASILY Anne in TDKR and also could have done LM. The problem is there are simply not enough movies getting made, it is not 1995. So you do a sitcom. What is difficult to understand about that? The alternative is being in 35 micro-budget films on Netflix/Hulu a year. Girl’s gotta eat.
Yea hahaha. It would have been the spacey uncommitted catwoman weve all been waiting for. She was an IT girl. When she started she had blonde hair and was more diverse, then she died her hair became a ditsy cartoon character of her previous seld. But ditsy charming when your over thirty, looks more like drunk and lost.
