This one surfaced just before Christmas but here’s a version without autoplay locked on. Ryan Gosling plays a pro motorcycle rider-turned-bankrobber and Bradley Cooper plays the cop who’s determined to catch him in The Place Beyond The Pines, directed by Derek Cianfrance who co-wrote with Ben Coccio and Darius Marder. Also starring Eva Mendes and Rose Byrne, it’s slated to open March 29 via Focus Features.

Good trailer, it hides the plot twist well.
Is it a plot twist or a reversal? Just because something is surprising doesn’t mean it’s a twist …
I like it.
Go Patricof/Howell Team!
Thought Blue Valentine was incredibly overrated. This looks great.
they should’ve titled it “Drive, Too!”
Phoney. Gosling and Cooper…oooh, the new hollywood heavyweights? Zzzzzzz. Say who? Tired of all this hoopla over Gosling and Cooper. Everything they do is so ACTOR-Y. It’s all phoney.
Watch the trailer again…and look at Ray Liotta’s first appearance. LOOK at him…look at how real and focused and NON-ACTOR-Y he looks. That’s an actor.
Then look and listen to everything Gosling says and does in every scene in every movie and tell me he’s so full of phony-ness he’s gonna sink.
FYI: you sound like a bitter nut job
Agreed — like when the pulled quotation comes up: “Gosling is electric.” and they cue him gazing in the most un-electric way imaginable, like a zombie void of life. But that’s become his pastiche, the blank hollowness pervading every gaze and movement in front of camera. We get it, Ry-Ry… you want to play brooding. But that doesn’t mean you can’t breathe when the camera is on you.
Some actors pick up presence and gravitas along the way. Liotta is what, 60 years old? I’m sure Ryan Gosling will get there, hes not a bad actor.
Cooper on the other hand, would be better on the Hangover III: Drunk in Dubai.
Gosling is the furthest from being phony. He’s one of the best young actors working.
That you can’t see that makes me hope you are a shoe salesman in a one horse town and have no input in the movie business.
No, Gosling, Cooper, and Gordon-Levitt (down thread) can all act, and they’re good, separately. But too many over-the-top good looking actors in one film over shadow the story. I don’t find very attractive actors engaging, rather their ‘image’ is a distraction that pulls my attention away from the character and back to the actor’s hyperactive publicity. Actors need to be a bit mysterious, so we can more readily accept them in any role they choose to play. Even the most passive consumer of entertainment news would have a hard time ignoring the publicity for these actors.
Over-the-top good looking? Naaa, not even that. I, for one, find them totally unattractive.
Robert, agree with you one hundred percent.
Great seeing my hometown (Schenectady – The Place Beyond the Pines).
Looks and sounds great!
TPBTP looks great. I opened my first bank account at that bank when I was eight. I’m from Scotia.
going after Gosling in a Bradley Cooper movie? you’re clearly a connoisseur. of course limits is great but the sky is blue also. not an amazing observation. gosling is a great actor with a lot of integrity that is barely dipping his toes into the Hollywood waters. you have no taste.
Mendelsohn is one of the greatest actors alive.
>>Tired of all this hoopla over Gosling and Cooper.<<
Not to mention Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
Wonder why they dumped this in March, this movie is incredible.
Lets see. FBI Agent Goes After Surfer Extreme Sport Athletes robbing banks.. Humm Point Break?
Lets See Cop/FBI agent goes after street racers, Robbing Auto Parts, Hummm The 1st Fast and the Furious.
Lets See Cop goes after Motorcycle Racer Robbing Banks.. just effing hummm
How Original…
The film is nothing like what you just described.
This looks engaging. Two of the best in the business in a family-centered and spirited crime drama. Looks awesome. Now, if you want to see the best, watch Tom Hardy… THAT man is purely natural.
Looks fun. Eva Mendes in almost anything is worth the ticket price. Plus Ray Liotta. Don’t have a prob with Gosling stardom – it’s not like he’s Brad Pitt or George Clooney; he can ACT. Remember The Believer and Half-Nelson? Nobody can say the guy is a talentless creation of PR.
He’s constantly in tabloids, so it makes him seem more annoying than he really is. Wish I knew less about these people’s private lives, but I guess that’s a thing of the past.
I’m in
