Jared Gurman of Long Island was arrested and charged with attempted murder after admitting shooting his girlfriend over an argument about the AMC zombie series The Walking Dead, according to Nassau County Police. According to NBC’s local NY station, authorities said Gurman, 26, believed that what happened in the series — about a man who wakes from a coma to a zombie apocalypse — could happen in real life. 
“He felt very adamant”, Detective Lt. Raymond Cote said at a news conference Tuesday, according to the station. “There could be military mishap that would result in some sort of virus being released that could cause a terrible thing to happen.”

His girlfriend found his ideas ridiculous. Police say the argument grew so heated that the unidentified woman didn’t want to stay overnight with Gurman, and he took her home. But he continued the fight via text message, prompting her to return at around 2:30 AM to check on him. When she arrived, he was outside with a .22-caliber rifle. After trying to talk him down, she turned to walk up the stairs and Gurman fired a shot into her back. She suffered a pierced lung, a shattered rib and a pierced diaphragm and is in stable condition, NBC4-NY said. Gurman, who had several guns in the house, first told police the shooting was accidental but later admitted it wasn’t.

I, also have a pHD (toxicology) husband and I have a MS in biological psychology. He tuned in on a marathon “dead” (his turn with the remote) and I discovered it was addictive. I’ve never sought horror entertainment, yes, I am a snob. But these characters are so well written that I began to care about what was going to happen, to whom and what would they do then? The only other vamp/dead thing I’ve ever watched was a enarly Geo Clooney movie…and that had more to do with Geo Clooney than the horror…now, can anyone guess what we watch when I get my turn at the remote? LOL.

These people are from all walks of life and yet because none of them are as stuck up as you they are living! They are making it through something that most people couldn’t. It’s the fact that these people are going through the most horrid thing to happen on earth and yet they are keeping the human part of them, even while surrounded by monsters. Watching shows like “Walking Dead” help me tune out the outside world briefly. and forget the people who like to stereotype people just because of what they choose to watch on t.v. If you haven’t, then you must live the life of the little girl Susan in the movie Miracle on 34th St, who had never believed in Santa, never played make believe, and was always realistic about everything. Everyone needs to relax. At the end of the day, television shows are designed for one of a few reasons: education, information, or entertainment. Entertainment television is based on popularity-that’s why some shows get cut and some make it. Obviously the show appeals to enough people that it survives. If you want to watch it, watch it; if you don’t, don’t. Who cares?

The Walking Dead is a fictional series, based on a graphic novel. All types of people from all age groups, and ethnicities watch this show. if you are going to comment on something you should at least research what you say, especially if you are going to categorize everyone leaving only you out of it…..the way people verbally attack other people, over what is right and what is wrong, is just showing how mean we are all becoming.

Clearly the show is not about Zombie’s per se. It is about how the survivors turn on each and and even kill each other in order to survive. The survivors on the show are more afraid of other survivors than the zombies. This senario can apply to any mass epidemic.
I have two teens that love this show. They are well-read, doing well in school, and heading for college. They’re well-adjusted and don’t do drugs. Also, to s4bio, my two kids absolutely loathe vampire shows or movies so please keep your asinine opinions to yourself, and that includes Michael. Funny, I’m 49 with a double-bachelor’s in creative writing and photography. Graduated from my university in the top 10% of my class. In case you didn’t know, Walking Dead has been a graphic novel for well over 10 years – Twilight could never manage a run close to that long. My brother in law was accepted to Notre Dame on a full ride scholarship for their doctorate program in philosophy. He comes over every Monday to watch the show on DVR when I get home from my work as a wealth management specialist. We both enjoy the show and I would consider myself very educated. The program he’s in at Notre Dame allows only two new inductees per year out of about 10,000 applicants, so I would consider him at least moderately educated. We also both hate Twilight with a fiery passion. In case you didn’t know, the Walking Dead was a graphic novel before being a TV show and was equally contemplative then. If you really think it’s for the Twilight audience or the uneducated, you clearly have not seen the show.

Walking Dead has some of the worst acting of any popular TV show. I cannot believe how bad some of the acting is, especially by the leads (with the exception of Darryl who is spot on in nearly every scene).
